Job Overview: The Information and Communication Technology Assistant position is crucial for the effective functioning of the IOM's ICT operations in Abuja. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Information Management Technology Officer and the Senior ICT Team Lead. This role involves the installation, operation, and maintenance of computer systems and hardware peripherals, as well as the implementation of ICT requirements for various projects supported by IOM Abuja. The candidate will be responsible for managing daily incoming calls to the IT department, opening help desk tickets, troubleshooting minor IT issues, and routing more complex problems to the appropriate personnel. The position requires a proactive approach to ensure that all ICT components are functioning optimally and that staff members are supported in their technological needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the installation of approved software systems on servers and workstations according to set standards, including the installation of new hardware such as PCs, laptops, servers, and printers.
Maintain installed software, ensuring proper updates are applied, including the latest antivirus definitions, and perform system clean-ups as necessary.
Resolve end-user queries related to software and other ICT components in coordination with the Mission’s ICT Unit, escalating unresolved issues.
Support the Senior IT Assistant in ensuring compliance with IOM ICT regulations and procedures, reporting any deviations.
Raise awareness among mission staff regarding IOM ICT regulations and standards.
Manage email user accounts and mailing lists, ensuring their integrity.
Provide first-level support to users, troubleshooting issues related to access, online connections, file storage, and application functionality.
Act as the first point of contact for staff regarding new and replacement hardware.
Identify faulty devices, take necessary actions for replacements, and maintain logs of required repairs and maintenance. 1
Maintain IT equipment inventory, monitor inventory levels, and alert supervisors when thresholds are low. 1
Track ICT equipment procurement requests, test new equipment, and report findings to the ICT Head. 1
Ensure user data and server backups are conducted and tested for consistency. 1
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, or connectivity issues promptly. 1
Provide support for the Telerad system, file server, PACS server, and iCRco_XC software. 1
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completed university degree from an accredited academic institution in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Additionally, applicants should have a strong foundation in ICT principles and practices, with a focus on operational support and field experiences. The ability to communicate effectively via phone and email with an established IT support center is essential. Knowledge of Windows OS, networking, VOIP, and corporate Skype installations is required, along with familiarity with IOM-approved software. Holding certifications such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) will be considered an added advantage.
Educational Background: A completed university degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution is mandatory for this position. This educational background ensures that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to perform the duties associated with the role effectively.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in the field of ICT, which includes both operational and field experiences. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively with an established IT support center and possess good knowledge of various IT systems and software. Experience in troubleshooting and resolving IT issues is essential, as is the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is a mandatory requirement for all applicants. Additionally, working knowledge or fluency in Nigerian languages is preferred, as it may enhance communication with local staff and stakeholders.
