The organization is dedicated to helping those affected by conflict and disaster, providing essential services such as health care, education, and economic development. The IRC Oakland’s Anti-Trafficking department specifically focuses on providing comprehensive case management services to survivors of trafficking and other violent crimes, primarily serving immigrant survivors. The mission of the Anti-Trafficking program is to find sustainable solutions tailored to the unique situations of each client while partnering with community organizations and government agencies to raise awareness of human trafficking and identify the needs of survivors.
Job Overview: The Anti-Trafficking Caseworker plays a crucial role in providing holistic support to clients who are survivors of trafficking. This position involves connecting clients with various resources, including legal services, housing, public benefits, health care, and psychosocial services. The caseworker will conduct regular check-ins with clients to discuss their safety and service plans, ensuring that they receive the necessary support to navigate their recovery. A thorough understanding of human rights, strengths-based approaches, and trauma-informed care is essential for effectively serving these survivors. The role emphasizes survivor empowerment and requires the caseworker to maintain professional boundaries while being aware of self-care practices to address vicarious trauma. This position is part of a 36-month contract with Alameda County, highlighting the commitment to long-term support for survivors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Anti-Trafficking Caseworker will be responsible for providing trauma-informed comprehensive case management for survivors of trafficking, ensuring that acute client needs are met in a timely and culturally appropriate manner. Key responsibilities include conducting individualized initial assessments and safety planning, providing orientation to services, and offering support, referrals, and advocacy services tailored to clients’ distinct needs. The caseworker will assist clients in accessing appropriate resources such as shelter, physical and mental health services, and legal assistance to work towards achieving stable immigration status. Additionally, the caseworker will identify barriers to services and advocate for higher quality services while developing and maintaining positive relationships with community stakeholders. Participation in outreach activities, including the development and delivery of training to community organizations and government officials, is also a critical aspect of the role. The caseworker will ensure quality documentation and reporting, maintaining accurate case notes and managing case files, while complying with all agency policies and procedures. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Anti-Trafficking Caseworker position should possess a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in social services, case management, or related fields. An undergraduate degree is preferred, particularly in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field of study. Strong oral and written communication skills, along with excellent organizational abilities related to managing multiple clients and priorities, are also required. Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, and culturally sensitive skills relevant to underserved communities are preferred. Familiarity with legal providers, social services, public benefits, and community organizations in the Bay Area is strongly preferred, as is the ability to contribute both independently and as part of a team. Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required for this position.
Educational Background: The preferred educational background for the Anti-Trafficking Caseworker includes an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of social services and the specific needs of trafficking survivors.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in social services, case management, or related fields. This experience should ideally include direct work with vulnerable populations, particularly survivors of trafficking or similar human rights issues. Candidates with extensive experience in social work or related areas will be viewed favorably, especially if they have demonstrated the ability to manage complex cases and navigate various service systems effectively.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is a mandatory requirement for this position, as it is essential for communicating effectively with a significant portion of the client population. Additionally, knowledge of other languages relevant to the community served would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing the caseworker's ability to connect with diverse clients and provide culturally competent services.
Additional Notes: The Anti-Trafficking Caseworker position is a full-time role with a hybrid work schedule, combining both in-office and remote work.
