Job Overview:
The Digital Literacy Specialist is a vital role within the IRC, tasked with implementing the Digital Literacy Program under the guidance of the Adult Education Program Coordinator. This position is designed to equip clients in Kansas City with essential digital literacy skills, enabling them to access necessary resources and opportunities for self-sufficiency. The specialist will provide culturally and linguistically appropriate direct literacy programs and services, ranging from basic computer skills to more advanced tasks such as email account creation and resume development using Microsoft Word. The role involves developing curricula that empower clients to utilize technology effectively, thereby reducing barriers to achieving their personal and professional aspirations. The Digital Literacy Specialist will also play a crucial role in adapting the program to meet the evolving needs of the population served, ensuring that clients are well-prepared to navigate the digital landscape.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Digital Literacy Specialist will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including but not limited to: developing and implementing a Digital Literacy class training series; collaborating with IRC direct service staff to refine the training series based on the needs of the population; engaging with community partners for digital asset mapping; integrating digital literacy into the English Language Training (ELT) curriculum; conducting one-on-one digital skills development sessions; performing client assessments and data tracking; training staff and volunteers on the digital literacy curriculum; assisting clients in accessing Wi-Fi and internet services; maintaining accurate records for program eligibility and reporting; working with local school personnel to register eligible refugee students for affordable internet services; providing training on core digital skills and tools; designing and implementing additional training curricula; maintaining the computer lab and technology inventory; participating in program meetings and staff development activities; traveling as necessary within the service delivery area; and performing other assigned duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Digital Literacy Specialist position should possess an undergraduate degree in a related field, although a combination of relevant work experience and education may be considered. Prior experience working with refugee, immigrant, and low-income populations is preferred. A minimum of one year of experience in instruction, training, case management, or coaching is also preferred. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of familiarity with digital literacy and computer skills, as well as the ability to use information and communication technologies effectively. Previous multicultural experience and strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and exhibit excellent organizational skills.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field, which may include education, social work, or a related discipline. However, equivalent years of related work experience combined with education may also be acceptable. The emphasis is on having a strong foundation in areas pertinent to digital literacy and adult education.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant experience, particularly in instruction, training, case management, or coaching.
