Job Overview:
The UNV Programme Associate position is part of the UNEP's Regional Office for West Asia, specifically supporting Qatar in preparing its Initial Biennial Transparency Report (BTR1) and providing minor support for Qatar's Second National Communication (SNC). This role is crucial in enhancing climate change awareness and knowledge in Qatar, directly assisting in national planning and policy formulation by mainstreaming vulnerability, adaptation, and mitigation measures. The expected outcomes of this position include enhanced national capacity for climate change reporting and transparency, improved integration of climate considerations into development plans, and increased stakeholder understanding of climate impacts and mitigation. Ultimately, the reports generated will contribute to Qatar's social and economic development by reducing climate vulnerabilities and strengthening emissions reduction tracking towards its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UNV Programme Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: compiling and assessing information related to averting, minimizing, and addressing loss and damage associated with climate change impacts; documenting adaptation strategies, policies, plans, goals, and actions to integrate adaptation into national policies and strategies; compiling information on cooperation, good practices, experiences, and lessons learned in adaptation actions and processes; providing technical and logistical support for project activities, including the preparation of materials for workshops, meetings, and training sessions; and conducting targeted research to support the preparation of the adaptation chapter with the BTR.

Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and a commitment to the mission of the United Nations. They should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in their approach to work, as well as creativity in problem-solving. Professionalism and self-management are also essential qualities for this role.

Educational Background:
A degree in environmental science, climate change, public policy, or a related field is required. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in these areas will be given preference.

Experience:
Candidates should have relevant experience in climate change, environmental policy, or related fields. Experience working with governmental agencies, research institutions, or international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with climate change reporting and transparency frameworks will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable. Proficiency in other languages may be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and other living essentials. The position is based in UN House, Beirut, Lebanon. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan and are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
