Job Overview: The position of engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Civil Engineer (Water and Sanitation) is crucial for the development and management of water and sanitation infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing projects related to water supply and sanitation systems. This role requires a strong background in civil engineering, particularly in water and sanitation engineering, to ensure that projects are executed efficiently and effectively. The engineer will work closely with government institutions and donor-funded projects, contributing to capacity building and ensuring that the projects meet the required standards and regulations. Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and develop water and sanitation infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
Manage the implementation of construction projects, including supervision of contractors and ensuring quality control.
Conduct feasibility studies and assessments to determine project viability and sustainability.
Collaborate with government institutions and stakeholders to align project objectives with national policies and strategies.
Provide technical guidance and support to project teams and local partners.
Monitor and evaluate project progress, preparing reports and documentation as required.
Facilitate capacity building initiatives for local staff and stakeholders involved in water and sanitation projects.
Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations during project implementation.
Participate in multi-disciplinary planning and coordination meetings to ensure integrated project delivery.
Required Qualifications:
A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Water and Sanitation Engineering, or a related field is required.
A Bachelor's Degree in the same fields may be accepted with an additional four (4) years of relevant experience.
A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in civil engineering, specifically in water and sanitation engineering, is required.
At least two (2) years of experience in the design, development, and management of water and sanitation infrastructure projects is essential.
Experience working with government institutions and donor-funded projects is desirable.
Familiarity with UN or other humanitarian/development agencies is an advantage.
Multi-disciplinary planning experience is considered an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Water and Sanitation Engineering, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in the same fields is acceptable if accompanied by four (4) years of relevant professional experience. This educational background ensures that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for the position.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the field of civil engineering, specifically focusing on water and sanitation engineering. This experience should include at least two (2) years in the design, development, and management of water and sanitation infrastructure projects. Candidates with experience working with government institutions and donor-funded projects will be preferred, as well as those who have worked with UN or other humanitarian/development agencies. Multi-disciplinary planning experience is also beneficial for this role.
Languages: Full working knowledge of French is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. A working knowledge of English is desirable, as it may facilitate communication with international partners and stakeholders.
