Job Overview:
The Protection/MHPSS Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of Protection and Mental Health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities in Plateau, Kaduna, and Taraba states. This position requires close coordination with the Protection/MHPSS Programme Manager and other staff to ensure effective project implementation. The successful candidate will be responsible for various administrative tasks, including coordinating purchase requests, managing payroll, and ensuring compliance with IOM and donor requirements. The role also involves providing technical support through mentorship and supervision, facilitating training sessions, and maintaining documentation systems. The candidate will be expected to assist in operational planning and monitor the delivery of key services, ensuring that the project meets its objectives and adheres to established guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Protection/MHPSS Assistant include:
  • Assisting in the coordination of purchase requests, purchase orders, payroll, and payment requests.
  • Verifying that the tracking system is functional across all sub-offices in North East Nigeria.
  • Providing technical support through organizing supervision, mentorship, and coordination sessions with project management team members.
  • Facilitating the integration of cross-cutting issues such as protection, gender, GBV, child safeguarding, and accountability into IOM's emergency response interventions.
  • Creating and maintaining a proper documentation system for project administrative and financial documents.
  • Coordinating and organizing field missions and training logistics.
  • Consolidating and providing weekly updates on activities by maintaining relevant databases and tracking systems.
  • Assisting with data entry as needed.
  • Monitoring the operational planning and implementation of key services delivered. 1
  • Identifying and monitoring external expertise required for assessments and evaluations. 1
  • Ensuring compliance with IOM and donor guidelines and reporting any non-compliance. 1
  • Undertaking duty travel when necessary in challenging areas. 1
  • Performing other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a high school diploma with four years of related experience or a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social sciences, social work, community services, Migration Studies, Development studies, or a related field with two years of related experience. Candidates must demonstrate a genuine care and respect for the needs of vulnerable populations, with a strong belief in empowering marginalized and disenfranchised individuals. High integrity and a commitment to transparency are essential, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality in all responsibilities assigned.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a high school diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as psychology, social sciences, social work, community services, Migration Studies, or Development studies. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the educational qualifications are recognized and valid.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of related experience if holding a Bachelor’s degree, or four years of related experience if holding a high school diploma. Experience in working with vulnerable populations and a demonstrated ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality in their work is crucial. The candidate should also possess a positive attitude and a genuine care for the needs of others, particularly those who are vulnerable.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for all applicants. Proficiency in one local language is considered an advantage. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process, which could include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Nigeria will be considered. The offer made to the candidate is contingent upon funding confirmation. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months. Candidates must be medically fit for appointment, and their residency, visa, and authorizations will be verified by the concerned government where applicable.
