The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a leading intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. Established in 1951, IOM has grown to include 173 member states and offices in over 100 countries. The organization is committed to ensuring that migration is safe, orderly, and dignified, and it works to harness the potential of migration to improve the lives of migrants and their communities. IOM's mission includes providing services and advice concerning migration to governments and migrants alike, and it aims to promote international cooperation on migration issues.

Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and recent graduates who have a keen interest in migration-related issues. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should ideally be enrolled in their final academic year of a bachelor's degree or have graduated within the last year. The programme aims to provide interns with practical experience in the field of migration, particularly in areas relevant to IOM's work. Interns will support various activities, including the implementation of DNA testing for family reunification, data collection for program beneficiaries, and the development of tools for case management. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the workings of an international organization and contribute to meaningful projects that impact the lives of migrants and refugees.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will assist in a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the implementation of activities related to DNA testing for family reunification; collecting disaggregated and anonymous data for publications and briefings; developing and adapting existing tools for case management; gathering data and relevant legislation regarding family reunification procedures in Italy and other EU member states; disseminating information about family reunification as a legal entry channel to Italy; and performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor. The role requires attention to detail and the ability to work accurately with data and documents, as well as effective communication skills to convey information clearly.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level) or in a graduate school program, or have graduated with one of the above degrees within the last year. Additionally, candidates should have a specific interest in migration issues and may be required to hold a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations or be sponsored by governmental or non-governmental institutions. Previous experience in administrative tasks, research, and data collection is advantageous, particularly in the migration and asylum field.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in a bachelor's degree program or higher, or having graduated from such a program within the last 12 months. The focus should be on fields relevant to IOM's work, such as international relations, social sciences, or migration studies. Candidates should demonstrate a strong academic record and a commitment to learning about migration issues.

Experience:
Interns should have some experience in basic administrative tasks, such as document filing, data entry, and email correspondence. Participation in research and data collection activities related to project implementation is also beneficial. While previous experience in the migration and asylum field is not mandatory, it is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's application.

Languages:
Fluency in both Italian and English is required, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages. IOM's official languages also include French and Spanish, so proficiency in these languages is considered a plus but not mandatory. Language skills will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the necessary communication standards.

Additional Notes:
The internship is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of the candidate's medical fitness for appointment, as well as verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned government, where applicable. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those already receiving financial remuneration or credits from their university or sponsoring body will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under its Compensation Plan, free of charge, for the duration of the internship. However, interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses and must provide proof of such coverage before starting work. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct that contradicts the organization's aims, including discrimination and harassment. The organization does not charge any fees during the recruitment process and only accepts applications submitted through its online recruitment system.
