Job Overview: The Project Assistant position is designed to support the implementation and monitoring of various humanitarian activities related to temporary shelter, humanitarian transport, food and non-food items, housing, water and sanitation, connectivity, and infrastructure improvement. The role involves close collaboration with sub-offices and other thematic units within IOM Ecuador to ensure effective project execution. The Project Assistant will be responsible for drafting progress reports, monitoring project implementation, and assisting in the identification of needs among populations on the move. This position requires a proactive approach to support emergency response plans and facilitate coordination among various stakeholders involved in humanitarian efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in the implementation and follow-up of humanitarian activities, monitoring projects at both national and local levels, drafting various progress reports as required, serving as a contact point for key partners, supporting the execution of emergency response plans, identifying needs of vulnerable populations, organizing working groups for humanitarian preparedness and response, reporting project-related events to IOM, and providing general administrative support related to project implementation. The role may also involve performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma with at least four years of relevant work experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Psychology, Migration Studies, Law, or related areas, along with two years of relevant professional experience. The qualifications emphasize the importance of having a solid educational background and practical experience in humanitarian contexts, particularly with vulnerable populations.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a high school diploma combined with four years of work experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Psychology, Migration Studies, Law, or related disciplines. It is important that the educational qualifications are from accredited institutions recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have a solid academic foundation to support their professional roles.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least two years of relevant professional experience in implementing and monitoring social and community projects, particularly those focused on vulnerable populations. Experience in humanitarian assistance, emergency response programs, and working with UN agencies is highly valued. Additionally, candidates should have experience in monitoring plans and projects at both national and local levels, as well as providing direct assistance to vulnerable populations, which is crucial for the role.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. Additionally, a working knowledge of another official UN language (such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage. Proficiency in the languages spoken by beneficiaries, particularly English, is also beneficial and may enhance the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
