Job Overview:
The Adult Education Supervisor plays a crucial role in implementing and managing education programming for adults at the IRC’s Elizabeth resettlement office. This position is responsible for coordinating various adult education initiatives, including English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), digital literacy, job readiness training (JRT), and cultural orientation (CO) classes. The supervisor will oversee the onboarding and supervision of instructors, volunteer tutors, and adult education interns, ensuring that all educational services are delivered effectively and meet the needs of the clients served. The role requires a strong focus on program development, compliance with grant requirements, and collaboration with other IRC staff to provide a seamless client-centered service model. The Adult Education Supervisor will also evaluate program effectiveness and adapt curricula as necessary to ensure the highest quality of education is provided to adult learners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Adult Education Supervisor will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: managing the development, implementation, compliance, and completion of all adult education service grants and contracts; overseeing the planning and execution of adult education classes, including scheduling, enrollment, and testing; leading the development of curricula for ESOL, digital literacy, JRT, and CO classes; evaluating program efficiency and effectiveness; ensuring compliance with external standards set by funders; collaborating with the EL manager to develop program goals; managing the adult education team according to IRC’s People Manager Standards; training and providing leadership to staff and interns; administering adult education case management; serving as the point of contact for collaboration with stakeholders; facilitating communication for program reports; managing the adult education program database; preparing reports for donors; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Adult Education Supervisor position must possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field, with a Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or TESOL/ESL being highly preferred. A minimum of two years of teaching experience with adults is required, particularly with English language learners. Experience working with diverse adult learners from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds is highly desired. Candidates should have relevant professional experience with English Language Learners, refugee, and immigrant populations, as well as a proven track record of effective communication with diverse groups. Experience in designing student-centered, thematic-based curricula and developing monitoring and evaluation systems is also highly desired. Strong leadership, mentorship, relationship-building, and communication skills are essential for this role.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Adult Education Supervisor position includes a Bachelor’s degree as a minimum requirement, with a preference for candidates holding a Master’s degree in a related field such as Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or TESOL/ESL. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of adult education and the specific needs of the populations served by the IRC.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of teaching experience, specifically with adult learners. Languages:
Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages spoken by IRC’s clients, such as Spanish, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, and Kiswahili, is highly desired and considered an asset for effective communication and service delivery.
Additional Notes:
The Adult Education Supervisor position is based in a standard office environment, with occasional travel to off-site locations and potential weekend or evening work. The compensation for this role is competitive, with a pay range of $70,000 for US-based candidates.
