Job Overview: The consultant will provide technical assistance to UNICEF Country Office in scaling up youth engagement in climate action through the Young Climate Champions network. This role focuses on empowering young people, particularly in Karakalpakstan, to participate in climate advocacy and community-based actions. The consultant will work closely with national partners and UNICEF teams to coordinate the development of educational materials, monitor youth-led initiatives, and facilitate meaningful youth participation in climate-related decision-making processes. The overarching goal is to enhance the capacity of youth as agents of change in the climate agenda, ensuring their voices are heard at both national and international levels.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate the contextualization and translation of learning materials on water preservation for young climate activists, ensuring they are tailored to youth needs.
Monitor and support the Young Climate Champions network, including capacity building for mentors and youth members.
Facilitate youth-led climate actions in schools and communities, focusing on water conservation initiatives.
Organize climate challenges and advocacy events in collaboration with national partners.
Prepare young people for participation in climate policy dialogues at various levels.
Document the implementation process, capturing lessons learned and feedback.
Develop advocacy and communication materials to raise awareness about climate change and showcase youth actions.
Required Qualifications:
A university degree in international development, environmental studies, human rights, sociology, anthropology, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law, education, or a relevant social science field.
At least 3 years of experience in social development, eco-volunteering, youth engagement initiatives, or related fields.
Knowledge of gender equality promotion and experience with girls-led organizations is an asset.
Proven project coordination skills, particularly in youth development and community empowerment.
Experience in building partnerships with stakeholders, including government and NGOs.
Strong report writing and monitoring skills, preferably with UN(ICEF) experience.
Educational Background: A university degree in relevant fields such as international development, environmental studies, human rights, sociology, anthropology, international law, education, or other social sciences is required for this position.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in areas such as social development, eco-volunteering, youth engagement initiatives, and project coordination. Experience in managing complex projects with a focus on education, climate change, and youth engagement is essential, along with a background in monitoring and evaluation.
Languages: Fluency in Uzbek, English, and Russian is required for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and engagement with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position involves local travel for monitoring visits and events. The consultant will be engaged in a contract that may extend over several months, with specific deliverables and timelines outlined for various activities.
