Job Overview:
The logistics-officer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Officer will play a crucial role in the daily planning and coordination of WFP logistics operations in Malakal. This position involves monitoring services provided by contracted external organizations to ensure cost-effective operations. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing supply chain plans for in-kind food and cash-based transfers, managing logistics projects, ensuring compliance with logistics assurance targets, and conducting market analysis to improve local supply chain performance. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of food and cash-based assistance to beneficiaries, as well as contributing to operational pipeline planning and emergency logistics preparedness.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of supply chain plans for in-kind food, cash-based transfers (CBT), and market development activities, aligning with WFP's global strategies.
  • Manage logistics projects and operational activities to ensure effective delivery of food and CBT assistance.
  • Ensure logistics assurance targets are met, including accurate inventories and timely documentation.
  • Conduct market analysis and supply chain network mapping to enhance local supply chain performance.
  • Lead procurement processes for retailers and monitor ongoing retailer agreements.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports, including key performance indicators, to support decision-making.
  • Conduct financial analysis and budget reviews to optimize fund usage.
  • Contribute to operational aspects of the supply chain, including procurement and shipping.
  • Provide technical support to other units, especially for emergency response. 1
  • Supervise junior staff and support their development. 1
  • Build relationships with logistics colleagues to support integrated food assistance. 1
  • Participate in emergency logistics preparedness and conduct Logistics Capacity Assessments. 1
  • Review internal processes to increase efficiencies. 1
  • Act in emergency response capacities as needed. 1
  • Perform any other tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
Advanced University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field, or a First University degree with additional years of relevant work experience. Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in a relevant field, including experience in hardship duty stations or emergency operations. Knowledge of supply chain emergency preparedness planning and operational risk identification is essential. Strong analytical skills, initiative, coordination skills, and the ability to lead logistics operations in challenging environments are required. Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an Advanced University degree in a relevant field such as Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or Business Management. Alternatively, a First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training may be accepted.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in logistics or supply chain management, particularly in emergency operations or hardship duty stations. Experience in supply chain emergency preparedness planning and operational risk identification is crucial. Desired experience includes managing cash-based transfer operations, designing supply chain networks, and working with supply chain information systems.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory. A working knowledge of Arabic is considered an added advantage, enhancing communication with local stakeholders and partners.
