Job Overview:
In this newly created role, the Child Development Worker will be working with vulnerable families as part of the Tenancy Support for Children and Families (TSCF) program in Darwin/Palmerston. The position is full-time and maximum term through to June 2026, with the possibility of extension. The worker will coordinate the planning, implementation, and review of culturally appropriate child-focused activities for children living with their families in social housing or vulnerable tenancy situations. The role involves direct engagement with children at risk of homelessness through supported playgroups, community outreach, and other child-focused activities. The worker will report to the Team Leader and will be required to work across various locations within Darwin/Palmerston as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Child Development Worker will be responsible for planning and facilitating weekly supported playgroup sessions, finding creative ways to encourage families to engage with support programs and services, including education support programs. The worker will visit families in their homes to provide coaching, support, and information to parents, identifying and addressing physical, social/emotional, and educational needs, and making appropriate referrals to other health, education, and welfare agencies. Additionally, the worker will help build family wellbeing networks to ensure children are surrounded by supportive family and kin, and assist with process monitoring, data collection, and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a qualification in Early Childhood Education (minimum Certificate III is strongly preferred) or significant equivalent experience. They should have experience working with children aged 0-6 years and families in a group setting, along with knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework. Prior experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and/or CALD communities is preferred. Competency in the use of Microsoft Office programs and the ability to use databases is also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess a qualification in Early Childhood Education, with a minimum of a Certificate III strongly preferred. This educational background is essential for understanding child development and implementing effective early childhood programs.

Experience:
The position requires experience working with children aged 0-6 years and families in a group setting. Candidates should have a solid understanding of early childhood education principles and practices, as well as experience in engaging with vulnerable families and communities.

Languages:
While the job description does not specify mandatory languages, proficiency in English is essential for communication. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD communities, would be advantageous and is considered a good-to-have skill.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time position with a maximum term contract through to June 2026, with the possibility of extension. The role offers an award rate salary of $38.65 per hour, along with full salary packaging benefits.
