Job Overview:
The Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Technical Officer is a mid-level position within the project team, reporting to the SBC Technical Advisor. This role is crucial for providing technical expertise to support the implementation, monitoring, and sustainability of SBC interventions. The officer will focus on strengthening Local Service Providers (LSPs), community structures, and stakeholders to ensure long-term behavior change. The position requires collaboration with provincial and district stakeholders to align strategies, document lessons learned, and enhance community ownership of SBC efforts. The SBC Technical Officer will also be responsible for adapting the SBC strategy to local contexts and ensuring that interventions are effective and sustainable.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Technical Support & Capacity Building: Implement and adapt the SBC strategy to sustain behavior change; train and mentor LSPs to enhance their role as behavior change agents; conduct results-based monitoring to assess SBC impact and recommend improvements.
  • Work Planning & Coordination: Develop and track district-level work plans to align with sustainability objectives; participate in quarterly review meetings and contribute to adaptive learning; represent the program in technical forums and ensure SBC integration.
  • Documentation & Learning: Capture lessons learned, success stories, and emerging trends to inform SBC improvements; conduct pause-and-reflect sessions to enhance adaptive programming; compile quarterly and annual reports ensuring alignment with program goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage government, private sector, and community partners to reinforce SBC sustainability; track policy influence and advocacy efforts related to behavior change; liaise with and manage partner organizations involved in country program activities and assist in the implementation of project activities.
  • Women, Girls and Boys Empowerment: Ensure SBC interventions address gender and social barriers affecting adoption; work with Youth teams to integrate youth and marginalized groups into SBC efforts; perform other assigned tasks that support the SBC Technical Advisor to successfully complete FHI 360 workplan activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have 3-5 years of experience in implementing and managing international health/development, demand generation, marketing, and social and behavior change programs and projects in developing countries, particularly with experience working in Zimbabwe. A strong understanding of the agricultural industry and market in nutrition-sensitive agriculture food marketing is essential, along with knowledge of effective social and behavior change communication models and strategies. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based, innovative solutions to communication challenges in developing countries, as well as field experience in developing and implementing SBC projects that have shown impact at scale. Strong technical, programming, and management skills are required, along with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred, particularly for candidates with extensive experience in the field.

Experience:
Candidates should possess a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in the field of social and behavior change, particularly in the context of health and development programs. Experience in Zimbabwe or similar contexts is highly valued, as is a proven track record of successful project implementation and management.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in one or more local languages. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for effective stakeholder engagement and reporting.
