Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNFPA is crucial for providing reliable and safe transportation services primarily for the staff of the Bamenda office, as well as for other UNFPA personnel, UN officials, and visitors. The role requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, as the driver will be responsible for ensuring the safety and timely arrival of passengers at their destinations. The driver will report directly to the Administrative Associate and the International Operations Manager, and will play a key role in supporting the implementation of various UNFPA projects, including those funded by GIZ and EU/BMZ. The position demands a client-oriented approach, courtesy, and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. The driver will also need to stay informed about local traffic regulations and safety protocols to ensure compliance and safety during operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: providing reliable and safe driving services for UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors; transporting mail and documentation; meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and managing visa and customs formalities as required; maintaining awareness of traffic and road conditions to ensure timely arrivals; managing vehicle maintenance, including conducting minor repairs, cleaning, and arranging for major repairs; keeping daily vehicle logs and assisting in the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans; tracking insurance and tax formalities; acting as a translator in the local language for official passengers when necessary; guiding and coaching junior drivers; and assisting staff with general administrative duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have completed secondary level education. Additionally, applicants should have at least three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or within the UN system, demonstrating a safe driving record. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, local roads and conditions, and defensive driving skills is essential. Skills in minor vehicle repairs are also required, along with a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary level education. This foundational education is necessary to ensure that candidates have the basic knowledge and skills required for the role, including understanding road safety and vehicle operation.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience as a driver, particularly in an international context such as with an organization, embassy, or UN agency. This experience should include a proven track record of safe driving and familiarity with the protocols and expectations of driving in a professional environment.

Languages:
A basic knowledge of the English language is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of Pidgin is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local passengers and enhance the driver's ability to serve diverse clients effectively.
