Job Overview:
The Climate Investment Associate will play a crucial role in the Department of Asia and the Pacific (DAPAC), which oversees country programming, pipeline development, and portfolio management for public and private sector investments aimed at driving transformative climate adaptation and mitigation impacts. The Associate will independently perform operational, analytical, and coordination tasks across the investment cycle, contributing to the development and execution of DAPAC’s portfolios. This position requires a commitment to making a measurable difference in climate action initiatives and involves engaging with various stakeholders, including governments, communities, and the private sector. The Associate will lead specific workstreams in project preparation, financial structuring, due diligence, and investment pipeline development, exercising increasing autonomy in assessing proposals and coordinating inputs from different divisions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Investment, Analytical, and Technical Responsibilities: The Associate will independently analyze concept notes, funding proposals, term sheets, financial models, and due diligence materials in alignment with GCF policies. They will lead analytical workstreams for low- to medium-complexity transactions, assess strategic alignment and risks, build and validate financial models, and provide technical input for GCF financial instruments.
  • Project & Portfolio Coordination: The Associate will coordinate and track key project cycle activities, ensuring timely progression through internal and external review stages. They will prepare portfolio dashboards, analytic summaries, and serve as a liaison with internal counterparts.
  • Engagement & Stakeholder Management: The Associate will lead discussions with domain experts, manage relationships with project counterparts, and contribute to market intelligence on climate finance trends.
  • Research, Strategy & Knowledge Contributions: Conducting market and sector research to support pipeline development and preparing thematic briefs will be part of their responsibilities.
  • Operational & Mission Support: The Associate will lead documentation and preparation for investment missions and support internal process improvements.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Environmental Management, Development Finance, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline combined with two additional years of relevant professional experience may be accepted. Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in investment analysis, climate finance, development finance, project finance, or portfolio management. Demonstrated experience with structuring or assessing investment instruments is essential, along with advanced analytical skills, strong coordination and project management abilities, and experience working with DFIs, MDBs, or climate finance institutions.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Environmental Management, or Development Finance. A Bachelor’s degree may be accepted if combined with additional relevant professional experience, specifically two years beyond the Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in areas such as investment analysis, climate finance, development finance, project finance, or portfolio management. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with investment instruments and possess strong analytical and project management skills.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and partners.
