Job Overview: The CH & Nutrition Officer is tasked with overseeing the implementation and providing technical support for Relief International’s community health and nutrition program in Northwest Syria (NWS). This role is pivotal in ensuring the quality execution of project activities while building the capacity of Community Health Workers (CHWs) and health facility nutrition staff. The position holder will be responsible for timely and quality program reporting, sound budget management, and active participation in nutrition and community health-related coordination mechanisms within Syria. The officer will lead the development and implementation of community health and nutrition activities, ensuring that they are aligned with RI’s standards and donor guidelines, while also adapting to the local context and needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The CH & Nutrition Officer will provide leadership and support to community health and nutrition teams, overseeing the development and implementation of activities. Key responsibilities include: leading detailed implementation planning and budget forecasting; ensuring timely achievement of high-quality deliverables; continuously assessing the progress of community health and nutrition activities and providing corrective measures as needed; conducting regular field visits to monitor project implementation; recruiting implementing staff with support from other RI teams; assessing the capacity of CHWs and nutrition staff, identifying gaps, and organizing training programs; developing and rolling out monitoring and evaluation systems; facilitating joint supervisions with other departments; developing spending plans for community health activities; ensuring consistency in messaging with the WASH team; leading the development of training curricula and IEC tools; attending project administration meetings; managing community health and nutrition programs; assisting in data collection and reporting; interpreting data for decision-making; compiling monthly activity reports; and representing RI in coordination mechanisms at the field level.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in medicine, public health, human nutrition, or a related health field. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in implementing community health and/or nutrition programs is required, along with experience in the implementation of Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN). Proficiency in both written and oral English and Arabic is essential. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility in their schedule and work processes, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google software, particularly Google Drive, Gmail, Google Docs, MS Word, and MS Excel, is necessary, with familiarity with Adobe Suite being preferred.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as medicine, public health, human nutrition, or other related health disciplines. This foundational education is critical for understanding the complexities of community health and nutrition programming and for effectively implementing the necessary interventions.
Experience: The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in the implementation of community health and nutrition programs. This experience should include practical knowledge of CMAM and MIYCN, as well as a demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate health initiatives effectively. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in similar roles, showcasing their capability to lead teams and deliver high-quality health services in challenging environments.
Languages: Proficiency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this role, as effective communication is essential for coordinating with local teams, stakeholders, and beneficiaries. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse communities and partners.
