Job Overview:
The position involves providing substantive support for the implementation of the Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance's work programme in Kenya. The GISD Alliance was established to mobilize private finance for sustainable development, particularly in developing countries. The consultant will be responsible for conducting desk research on mobilizing private finance, facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues, and identifying investment opportunities in sectors that advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government representatives, private investors, and development partners, to enhance the effectiveness of financing mechanisms and promote sustainable investment practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake several key tasks, including: conducting desk research on mobilizing private finance and investments for sustainable development in Kenya; providing support in organizing a multi-stakeholder roundtable, preparing the agenda, and summarizing the meeting outcomes; participating in meetings with stakeholders and preparing summaries; identifying 2-3 investment opportunities in sectors advancing the SDGs; drafting a report with policy recommendations based on research findings; finalizing the report with feedback from relevant parties; and providing monthly progress reports on the implementation of the GISD work programme in Kenya.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in economics, social sciences, international affairs, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted. Additionally, a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development, mobilizing private finance, programme management, and multistakeholder engagement is required, with a focus on Africa. Experience with the UN or other international organizations, as well as knowledge of blended finance and sustainable finance topics, is advantageous. Excellent drafting and coordination skills are essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as economics, social sciences, or international affairs. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by relevant experience, indicating that the organization values practical experience alongside formal education.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in areas related to sustainable development, mobilizing private finance, and programme management. Candidates should have a strong background in qualitative analysis and multistakeholder engagement, particularly in the African context. Experience working with the UN or similar international organizations, as well as familiarity with Multilateral Development Banks and Development Finance Institutions, is considered an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable, which would enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders in the international context.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to last for a duration of 7 months and involves both on-site and off-site work at the UN office in Nairobi. The consultant will be engaged under a contract that does not require any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, as the United Nations does not charge applicants for applications, interviews, or training.
