Job Overview:
The UNV Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the development of results monitoring frameworks and evaluations within the UN system. This position is part of the Joint SDG Fund's initiative to enhance national evaluation capacity and support the effective delivery of Agenda 203
- The specialist will work under the guidance of the Reporting & Evaluation Specialist/Manager, contributing to the establishment of baselines, setting targets, and developing qualitative and quantitative indicators. The role also involves providing Technical Support for Data Collection and Analysis, assisting in the planning and execution of evaluations, and promoting the dissemination and use of evaluation results. Additionally, the specialist will engage in capacity-building activities, mentoring staff, and integrating the UN Volunteers programme mandate into their work, thereby fostering a culture of volunteerism and Community Engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UNV Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist include:
- Supporting the development of results monitoring frameworks by establishing baselines, setting targets, and developing indicators.
- Assisting in the planning and execution of evaluations, including the development of terms of reference and selection of evaluation teams.
- Providing technical support for data collection methods, Data Analysis, and information Management Systems.
- Supporting the dissemination and utilization of evaluation results to inform decision-making.
- Engaging in capacity-building activities for staff and stakeholders, including coaching and mentoring.
- Organizing and coordinating monitoring and evaluation missions.
- Integrating the UN Volunteers programme mandate into their work and promoting voluntary action within communities.
- Completing any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of monitoring and evaluation principles and practices, as well as experience in developing results frameworks and conducting evaluations. Candidates should possess excellent analytical skills, be proficient in data collection and analysis methods, and have the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for effectively disseminating evaluation results and engaging with stakeholders. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to Capacity Building and community engagement.
Educational Background:
Candidates for the UNV Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist position should have a degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, development studies, or a related discipline. A master's degree is preferred but not mandatory. Educational qualifications should be complemented by training in monitoring and evaluation methodologies and practices.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably within the UN system or other international organizations. Experience in developing monitoring frameworks, conducting evaluations, and engaging in capacity-building initiatives is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN development system will be an advantage.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in Kenya, is considered an asset and will enhance communication with local stakeholders.

This position is a UN Volunteer assignment, which may have specific terms regarding contract duration and seniority level.
