Job Overview:
The Sr. Mission Advancement Advisor is a pivotal role within the American Heart Association, primarily responsible for managing a portfolio of individual principal gift prospects and donors in the New York Metropolitan Region. This position is crucial for driving Fundraising efforts, with an expectation to close over $2.5 million annually from individual donors. The advisor will serve as a subject matter expert on the AHA’s fundraising priorities, engaging with individuals and their philanthropic representatives to cultivate, solicit, and steward donations in the seven-figure range. The role requires a blend of relationship-building, proposal writing, and strategic collaboration with field directors to identify and cultivate principal gift prospects. The advisor will work in a hybrid setting, balancing in-office work with remote responsibilities, and will have access to various resources to support their success and professional development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Sr. Mission Advancement Advisor include:
- Completing a minimum of 100 meaningful interactions with donors and prospective donors each fiscal year, managing a portfolio of approximately 50 individual donors with significant giving capacity.
- Conducting solicitations for 24 seven-figure gifts annually for both restricted and unrestricted purposes.
- Collaborating with field directors to strategize and identify principal gift prospects that align with market, regional, and national priorities.
- Creating and executing customized engagement strategies for donors and prospects to foster growth in donor relationships.
- Working with the Mission Advancement team to gather project information, including budgets, and developing presentations and proposals to secure gifts.
- Maintaining accurate records of all activities in the Salesforce CRM database and reporting on plans, activities, trends, and results to leadership and internal audiences.
- Participating in training activities and collaborating with team members to develop programs and strategies that enhance revenue development for the Association.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Sr. Mission Advancement Advisor position must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Additionally, a minimum of five years of experience in fundraising is required, with at least three years focused on individual major and principal gifts or large accounts. Candidates should demonstrate experience in planning and implementing engagement opportunities that align with organizational missions and strategies at both national and local levels. Proven experience working with complex philanthropic donors or clients, achieving fundraising results at the six-figure and higher gift ranges, is essential. Strong collaborative skills and effective verbal and written communication abilities are also required, particularly in translating scientific information for lay audiences. The ability to travel locally up to 30% and overnight up to 10% is necessary.
