Job Overview:
The ABA ROLI's Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Division is seeking an unpaid intern to assist with rule of law programs across the region. The intern will engage in a variety of tasks, including developing outreach materials and reports, conducting targeted research, editing progress reports, and coordinating the development of monitoring and evaluation tracking systems. The intern will also explore opportunities for new programs, conduct research for program development, and identify potential funding opportunities within the scope of ABA ROLI’s initiatives. Additionally, the intern will collaborate closely with DC and regional staff to assist in the development of concept notes or proposals. This Internship offers hands-on experience in a non-profit environment, allowing interns to grow their expertise in international development and understand the day-to-day operations of grant-funded organizations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include:
- Developing outreach materials and reports to communicate the objectives and achievements of ABA ROLI’s programs.
- Conducting targeted research to support ongoing projects and initiatives within the LAC Division.
- Assisting in the editing and refinement of progress reports to ensure clarity and accuracy.
- Coordinating the development of monitoring and evaluation tracking systems to assess program effectiveness.
- Participating in the exploration of new program opportunities, including conducting research for potential funding sources.
- Collaborating with DC and regional staff to develop concept notes or proposals for new initiatives.
- Gaining practical experience in the operations of a non-profit organization and understanding the dynamics of international development work.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary academic institution (undergraduate or graduate) in a program related to the internship's purpose.
- Recent graduates (within one year) from a post-secondary academic institution with a degree in a relevant field.
- Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
- A strong interest in rule of law, international development, civil society engagement, civic education, or related subjects is preferred.
- Creativity and the ability to use storytelling to support the organization's work are highly valued.
- Strong research and writing skills are essential for success in this role.
Educational Background:
The ideal educational background for this internship includes enrollment in or completion of a degree in International Relations, Political Science, Pre-Law, Global Studies, Spanish, or other fields related to international development, government, and/or Hispanic Studies. Candidates who are in the process of obtaining or have already obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution are encouraged to apply.
Experience:
While specific prior experience is not required, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in the fields of international development and rule of law. Experience in research, writing, or related volunteer work may be beneficial but is not mandatory. The internship is designed for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in a non-profit setting, particularly in the context of international programs.
Languages:
Working fluency in Spanish is required for this position, as it is essential for engaging with the programs and stakeholders in the Latin America and Caribbean Region. Proficiency in English is also necessary, and additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
