Job Overview:
The REACH Assessment Officer will play a crucial role in conducting area-based assessments and climate-related analyses in South Sudan. This position is vital for providing evidence-based insights that support localized humanitarian assistance. The officer will analyze local governance structures, social and environmental contexts, and the availability of basic services to understand community needs better. The role also involves Technical Analysis related to Climate Change, requiring collaboration with GIS teams and the ability to conduct remote sensing and statistical analysis. The officer will ensure high-quality data collection and reporting, contributing to the overall strategy for monitoring climate impacts on humanitarian needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assessment Officer will be responsible for a range of tasks, including: compiling and analyzing data for assessment reports, collaborating with project partners on survey Design and implementation, ensuring adherence to assessment strategies, overseeing Data Analysis and reporting, and developing REACH's approach to monitoring climate change impacts. The officer will manage all research cycles, from assessment preparation and planning to product drafting and dissemination. This includes ensuring that assessments are aligned with project objectives, monitoring data collection processes, and maintaining communication with IMPACT HQ. The officer will also engage with external partners and stakeholders, presenting research findings and ensuring confidentiality and Data Protection throughout the research cycle.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess excellent academic qualifications, including a degree in a relevant discipline. A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in humanitarian or development settings is required, with a preference for candidates who have worked in IMPACT/REACH missions. Experience in conducting climate-related assessments and coordinating interagency activities is essential. Strong analytical and communication skills are necessary for effective reporting, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and data collection tools. Familiarity with GIS software is highly recommended, and the ability to work independently and manage remote teams is crucial.
Educational Background:
A degree in a relevant field is required, with a strong emphasis on academic qualifications that support the analytical and technical demands of the role. Candidates should have a solid understanding of humanitarian principles and practices, particularly in relation to climate change and area-based assessments.
Experience:
The position requires at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian or development contexts. Previous experience in conducting climate-related assessments and coordinating assessments or monitoring activities is preferred. Familiarity with the humanitarian system and experience in the geographical region of South Sudan or East Africa is desirable.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills relevant to the South Sudan context may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
The contract duration is six months, with the possibility of extension up to one year. The position is based in Juba, South Sudan, and is not a family duty station. The salary ranges from 2,400 CHF to 2,520 CHF monthly, along with a living allowance of 300 USD. Benefits include accommodation and food provided in a guesthouse, enrollment in a Swiss private pension fund, health insurance, and repatriation assistance. Staff will receive flight tickets every six months, and there is a provision for rest and recuperation after three months. Annual leave is 36 days per year, with additional public holidays and compassionate leave as applicable. Pre-departure training and enrollment in a foundational learning program are also included.
