Job Overview:
The Protection and GESI Capacity Building Adviser will play a crucial role in enhancing Mercy Corps Ukraine's response to the humanitarian needs of vulnerable populations affected by war and conflict. This position is designed to develop a comprehensive capacity-building package that emphasizes both content knowledge and professional skills such as critical Analysis, advocacy, and external representation. The Adviser will be responsible for fostering an inclusive environment for GESI and protection work, ensuring that all team members are equipped with the necessary tools and guidance to implement programs effectively. The role requires flexibility, responsiveness, and a solution-oriented mindset to drive positive change within the organization and its partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review and enhance Mercy Corps Ukraine’s GESI and Protection approaches in alignment with the Response Strategy and Global Localization agenda.
  • Develop a comprehensive capacity-building package for the GESI and protection team, focusing on both content and professional skills.
  • Model and mentor team members on technical leadership in GESI and protection.
  • Foster an enabling environment for collaborative GESI and protection work.
  • Provide input and lead on Design" id="link" class="link">Program Design that includes GESI and protection.
  • Create and maintain systems for technical coherence across programs.
  • Ensure adherence to minimum standards in GESI and protection during program implementation.
  • Establish a structured approach to evidence creation and dissemination.
  • Contribute to new initiatives that promote GESI and protection. 1
  • Develop strategies, guidelines, tools, and SoPs for program teams. 1
  • Provide intensive Capacity Development to team members. 1
  • Facilitate learning and strategy related to GESI and protection. 1
  • Support the team in developing representation in the INGO and donor community.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in GESI and protection programming, preferably in a humanitarian context.
  • Strong understanding of capacity building methodologies and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in advocacy and external representation.
  • Familiarity with Monitoring and Evaluation practices related to GESI and protection.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, international development, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred and may be considered an asset for this position.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in GESI and protection programming, with a focus on capacity building and organizational learning. Experience working in conflict-affected settings is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Ukrainian or Russian is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is full-time and based in Kyiv, Ukraine. The role does not have supervisory responsibilities but will involve significant capacity-building efforts for the GESI and protection teams.
