Job Overview:
The Principal Nursing Officer is responsible for overseeing the nursing staff and ensuring the delivery of high-quality Health Services at the health center. This role involves supervising and directing the nursing team, providing Technical Support, and ensuring compliance with health policies and procedures. The incumbent will also manage the electronic medical record system, oversee Data Collection and reporting, and ensure the availability of medical supplies and equipment. The position requires a proactive approach to health service delivery, including addressing cross-cutting issues such as gender-based violence and disability. The Principal Nursing Officer will also take on nursing responsibilities when necessary and ensure high standards of infection control and cleanliness in the health center.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Act as the principal nursing officer at the health center, supervising and directing nursing staff, practical nurses, midwives, and non-paramedical staff.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the electronic medical record system, including training staff and maintaining equipment.
  • Supervise data collection, Analysis, and reporting of nursing activities, including follow-up on defaulters and home visits.
  • Assist in the Administration of the health center, managing vaccine stock, medical supplies, and equipment.
  • Direct and participate in health service activities, ensuring compliance with technical instructions.
  • Resume nursing responsibilities when necessary, including IUD insertion and checkups.
  • Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to nursing and non-paramedical staff.
  • Maintain high standards of infection control and cleanliness in the health center.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of secondary school.
  • A university degree or at least three years of nursing studies from an accredited institution.
  • A valid nursing license in the country of duty station (if applicable).

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary education and possess a university degree or equivalent in nursing studies from an accredited institution. Professional qualifications include a valid nursing license to practice in the duty station.

Experience:
A minimum of four years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience as a qualified nurse is required. Experience in a supervisory role within nursing services is desirable, as well as experience in primary health care provision.

Languages:
A good command of written and spoken English and Arabic is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
The position is a Fixed Term Appointment for three years, including a one-year probation period, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The monthly basic salary is USD 1,431.50, payable in Jordanian Dinars at the UN monthly exchange rate. Benefits include a Provident Fund contribution, dependency allowances, 30 days of annual leave, and compulsory medical insurance. The vacancy is open to internal candidates only, specifically those residing in the West Bank or Jerusalem with the necessary work authorization. Preference will be given to registered Palestine refugees and candidates who assist in achieving Gender Parity. A roster may be created for future similar positions.
