Job Overview:
The Internship-position" id="link" class="link">Internship Position is situated within the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality at the European Space Security and Education Centre (ESEC - Galaxia) in Transinne, Belgium. The role is primarily focused on the ESA Education programme, specifically the STEM Learning and Inspiration programme, which targets young individuals aged 3-18 years, along with their educators. The intern will engage in initiatives designed to support educators through various resources and activities, including professional training, interdisciplinary projects, and thematic workshops. The position also involves promoting STEM education through inspirational events and communication activities, aiming to enhance accessibility and diversity in the field of space and STEM education. The intern will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of educational resources and participate in outreach activities that inspire youth and their families to engage with space and STEM subjects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have the opportunity to choose between two main topics: STEM Education Didactics and e-learning for teachers. For Topic 1, the intern will contribute to the creation of new didactic activities and resources, categorize existing ESA-ESERO resources, update STEM didactics resources, and write scripts for video messages related to STEM education. For Topic 2, the intern will assist in producing e-learning courses for STEM teachers, defining learning objectives, writing scripts and storyboards, and integrating content into the ESA Education Learning Management System. The intern will also engage in various STEM didactics-related tasks, gaining valuable experience in both educational methodologies and e-learning production.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master’s level course. They must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. Additionally, a good command of English or French is required, with knowledge of another Member State language considered an asset. For Topic 1, knowledge of STEM education methodologies, Python coding, and Adobe InDesign is advantageous. For Topic 2, familiarity with e-learning systems and video/image processing is beneficial.
Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a university program, ideally pursuing a Master’s degree. The educational background should be relevant to STEM fields, education, or instructional Design, ensuring that the intern possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge to contribute effectively to the ESA Education programme.
Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates with knowledge or experience in STEM education, didactics, e-learning systems, or related fields will be favored. The internship is designed to provide practical experience, so a willingness to learn and engage with the educational initiatives of ESA is essential.
Languages:
The working languages of the European Space Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these languages is mandatory, while proficiency in another language from a Member State is considered an asset. This requirement ensures effective communication within the diverse environment of ESA.
