Job Overview:
The intern will be involved in the preparation of the Observatory on access to water in Mayotte. This role includes supporting and monitoring the collection of qualitative data (testimonials) and quantitative data (from SI teams and partners) locally to highlight the needs of individuals lacking sufficient access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (EHA). The intern will assist in analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data regarding EHA access in Mayotte and will also analyze secondary data such as publications and reports. Additionally, the intern will ensure ongoing monitoring and establish a calendar of advocacy opportunities to promote effective access to water and sanitation in Mayotte. This includes providing contextual Analysis and media monitoring on local conditions and the application of rights to water and sanitation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Support the collection of qualitative and quantitative data regarding access to water in Mayotte. Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to assess the situation and needs of the population. Review secondary data sources, including publications and reports, to inform advocacy efforts.
  • Contextual Research and Monitoring: Conduct ongoing monitoring of the local context and establish a calendar of advocacy opportunities. Provide contextual analysis and legal monitoring regarding the rights to water and sanitation in Mayotte.
  • Advocacy: Draft advocacy documents, letters of inquiry, and internal and external publications. Mobilize a network of partner organizations to facilitate the collection and centralization of EHA information in Mayotte. Participate in developing an advocacy strategy with local partners. Engage in national and International Human Rights protection mechanisms. Attend inter-associative meetings with SI partners. Support the organization of training sessions for local partners. Disseminate knowledge of applicable rights to water and sanitation among partners and institutions.
  • General Responsibilities: Participate in weekly and monthly meetings of the office and various departments. Provide support to all areas as needed based on requests.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a minimum of a BAC +4 level education, with a background in political science, social sciences, public policy, or law. A strong interest and knowledge of issues related to water scarcity and overseas territories are essential. Candidates should possess excellent writing, analytical, and drafting skills, as well as a desire to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is required. Experience in data collection and analysis is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong synthesis skills, relational competencies, proactivity, critical thinking, organizational skills, and a commitment to the principles and work of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL.

Educational Background:
A minimum educational background of BAC +4 is required, with a focus on political science, social sciences, public policy, or law. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of the issues related to water access and sanitation, particularly in the context of Mayotte and similar regions.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, particularly in data collection and analysis. While specific years of experience are not mandated, familiarity with the challenges of water access and the ability to analyze data effectively are essential for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, given the location and the nature of the work. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the local context or international advocacy, would be considered an asset but is not explicitly required.

Additional Notes:
The Internship is based at the France Mission office of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL in Marseille. The contract duration is 6 months, and it is mandatory to have an internship agreement. The legal compensation for the internship is 4.70 euros per hour, calculated based on actual hours worked each month (approximately 154 hours per month, equating to 22 days of 7 hours each). Additionally, the organization covers 60% of meal vouchers and 50% of transportation costs.
