Job Overview:
The Human Resources Director (HR Director) position at the American Heart Association is a pivotal role that serves as a business partner and Advisor to leaders and employees within the Midwest region. This position is responsible for developing and implementing human resources strategies that align with the Association's goals. The HR Director will lead various HR programs and regional learning and development activities, focusing on leadership development and facilitating virtual trainings across the region. The role is designed to support employees throughout their lifecycle, from onboarding to Career Development, and to enhance organizational culture through effective HR practices. The HR Director will also utilize HR metrics and data to drive continuous improvement in employee engagement and performance, ensuring that the AHA remains a leader in health advocacy and employee satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The HR Director will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
- Providing support to employees throughout their lifecycle, including conducting check-in calls, assisting with Development Plans, and processing departures.
- Advising employees and managers on various HR programs and procedures, covering areas such as onboarding, employee relations, engagement, organizational development, and talent succession.
- Utilizing HR metrics and data to provide insights and recommendations for improving culture, leadership, and processes.
- Identifying barriers to performance and implementing coaching and Development Strategies to enhance manager and employee performance.
- Creating and facilitating virtual leadership and individual contributor trainings.
- Leading region-wide HR projects and programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, including New Staff Orientation and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
- Participating in cross-functional projects and maintaining strong partnerships with other HR functions such as Talent Acquisition and Learning and Development.
- Performing other duties as assigned within the functional area of expertise.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the HR Director position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
- Professional certifications such as SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or SPHR/PHR are preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years of proven experience in human resources.
- At least two (2) years of experience in providing employee and leadership coaching.
- Training facilitation experience is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with effective interpersonal skills to relate to and influence individuals at all levels.
- A solid understanding of employment laws and compliance with internal policies and procedures.
- Exceptional skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, particularly under competing demands. 1
- Willingness to travel up to 10% for local and overnight assignments.
Educational Background:
Candidates for the HR Director role should have a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
