Job Overview:
The Deputy Executive Director for Medical Access to Products for Healthcare (APH) plays a crucial role in ensuring strong medical leadership within the APH Structure. This position is responsible for maintaining connections between the APH Structure and Senior Leadership within MSF and Global Health organizations. The Deputy Executive Director will ascertain the medical relevance of the Structure’s Strategic Plan (2026-2031) and Annual Plans from 2025 onward. This role is pivotal in defining the medical priorities of the APH Structure, collaborating closely with MSF’s medical and operational leadership platforms. The Deputy Executive Director will also cover for the Executive Director in their absence, ensuring continuity and alignment of the APH’s strategic direction and operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Deputy Executive Director will work closely with the Executive Director and the Management Team to identify priority issues for the APH Structure. Responsibilities include conceptualizing strategies for various dossiers on the Structure’s agenda, ensuring alignment with MSF’s operational priorities, and engaging with global health organizations to foster collaborations that enhance patient access to healthcare products. The role involves representing the APH Structure in various platforms, safeguarding the medical relevance of the Structure’s planning and activities, and providing expert advice on proposals related to the APH fund. The Deputy Executive Director will also analyze ethical considerations in the Design of activities and ensure that medical aspects are fully considered in all discussions.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong medical leadership experience, with a proven track record in managing complex health-related projects. They should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including global health organizations and MSF leadership. A deep understanding of healthcare access issues and the ability to navigate the global health landscape is essential. The candidate should also demonstrate adaptability and a collaborative spirit, as the allocation of responsibilities between the Director and Deputy Director is dynamic and may evolve over time.
Educational Background:
A medical degree is required, along with advanced qualifications in public health, global health, or a related field. Additional certifications or training in Humanitarian Assistance or Emergency Response would be advantageous. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of healthcare systems and access issues.
Experience:
The position requires significant experience in medical leadership roles, ideally within humanitarian or international health organizations. Candidates should have a minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience, including experience in strategic planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement. Familiarity with MSF’s operational context and experience working in diverse cultural settings will be considered an asset.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French or Spanish is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the regions of operation (such as Portuguese for Brazil) would be considered a plus, as it would enhance communication with local teams and stakeholders.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position with a duration of two years, with the possibility of extension for up to four years. The starting date for the position is set for January 1, 202
