Job Overview:
The Country Director position at NRC in Iran is a Senior Leadership role that requires a seasoned professional with a proven track record in strategic direction and operational leadership. The role involves developing and executing the country strategy, representing NRC at various levels, coordinating advocacy efforts, mobilizing resources, and ensuring that operational structures support efficient service delivery. The Country Director will also be responsible for ensuring cost efficiency and quality in operations, fostering staff learning and development, and maintaining the safety and Security of all personnel. This position is particularly significant given the complex humanitarian context in Iran, where NRC operates in response to the needs of millions of displaced individuals, particularly Afghans.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute the country strategy in alignment with NRC's overall mission and objectives.
  • Represent NRC in high-level meetings and forums, advocating for the rights and needs of displaced populations.
  • Coordinate with various stakeholders, including government entities, NGOs, and international organizations, to enhance collaboration and resource mobilization.
  • Ensure that all operational structures and systems are in place to facilitate efficient support to Field Operations.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality and cost-effectiveness of programs and services provided.
  • Lead initiatives for staff training, learning, and professional development to enhance team performance.
  • Oversee the safety and security protocols for all staff members, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Engage with beneficiary communities to understand their needs and priorities, ensuring that NRC's response is relevant and effective.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess senior management experience, ideally in a Country Director or similar leadership role within a humanitarian or recovery context. A strong background in Emergency response and experience in complex and volatile environments are essential. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership. Additionally, candidates should have a proven ability to inspire and influence others, fostering a collaborative and effective team culture.

Educational Background:
A relevant advanced degree in fields such as International Relations, humanitarian studies, social sciences, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with additional certifications in project management or Humanitarian Response will be viewed favorably.

Experience:
The position requires significant experience in senior management roles, particularly within humanitarian organizations. Candidates should have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in leadership positions, with a strong focus on Program Management and operational oversight in challenging contexts. Experience working in Iran or similar environments will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory. Proficiency in Persian or other relevant languages spoken in the region would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Tehran, Iran, with a contract duration of 24 months. The role may require approximately 10% travel within the country. NRC offers a competitive salary and benefits package, aligned with Grade 12 in NRC’s Salary Scale.
