Job Overview:
The Communication and Information Specialist will play a crucial role in developing and implementing projects and proposals that align with UNESCO's mission. The incumbent will work under the authority of the Director-general" id="link" class="link">Assistant Director-general for Communication and Information and will be responsible for providing expert advice, conducting research, and managing knowledge related to communication and information initiatives. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of communication strategies and ensure alignment with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The specialist will also be involved in resource mobilization efforts to support the Field Office's activities and contribute to multi-sectoral programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Communication and Information Specialist include analyzing and contributing to the development of the Field Office's CI strategy, identifying collaborative project proposals, managing and implementing program activities, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements, and providing Technical Support to colleagues. The incumbent will also be responsible for conducting research, developing outreach strategies, and participating in the establishment of UN project Management Systems. Networking with various stakeholders, contributing to resource mobilization, and providing administrative support for projects are also key responsibilities. The specialist will ensure effective communication and knowledge sharing within the organization and with external partners.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in communication and information, media studies, ICTs, or related fields. A minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in communication and information, particularly in promoting free and pluralistic media, is required. Experience in designing and implementing programs, partnership-building with UN agencies, and developing proposals for external funding is also essential. Strong project management skills, knowledge of development policies, and excellent communication abilities are necessary for this role.
Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in fields such as communication and information, media studies, ICTs, International Relations, or social sciences is required. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and their impact on society.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, with at least two years at the international level. Candidates should have experience in designing and implementing communication and information programs, as well as in partnership-building with various stakeholders, including UN agencies and NGOs. Demonstrated experience in resource mobilization and Fundraising is also preferred.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French is mandatory, with good knowledge of the other language being advantageous. Familiarity with additional languages, particularly those of UNESCO's official languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered a desirable qualification.

The position is a fixed-term contract for a duration of two years, with the possibility of renewal. It is open to both internal and external candidates.
