Job Overview:
The UN Economist position is integral to the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Jakarta, Indonesia. The incumbent will be responsible for providing evidence-based analysis and substantive advice on the status of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on SDG acceleration, economic transformation, and SDG financing. This role requires a deep understanding of economic policies and practices, as well as the ability to leverage data and innovative financing mechanisms to support sustainable development initiatives. The economist will work closely with various stakeholders, including government counterparts, UN Country Teams (UNCT), and international financial institutions, to foster partnerships and advocate for policies that align with the SDGs. The position demands a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for collaboration and ensuring that economic policies are reframed to support sustainable development objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Economist include:

• Planning, facilitating, and consolidating evidence-based analysis of the SDGs, providing substantive advice to the Resident Coordinator (RC) and UNCT on SDG acceleration and economic transformation.
• Researching and analyzing data on best practices in SDG acceleration and economic transformation, with a focus on gender and inclusivity.
• Guiding the RC/UNCT on SDG-related policies and evaluating potential synergies between different SDGs.
• Collaborating with UNCT counterparts to develop advocacy topics related to SDG acceleration and financing.
• Collecting and analyzing data on UN country-level operations to identify gaps and propose follow-up actions.
• Coordinating the preparation of UN flagship reports on SDG acceleration and financing.
• Monitoring regional and global economic trends and their implications for SDG acceleration.
• Supporting advocacy efforts for strong partnerships with national counterparts and international financial institutions.
• Coordinating the development of an integrated SDG programming cycle that advances economic transformation in Indonesia. 1
• Promoting knowledge generation and management around SDG acceleration and financing.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in sustainable development policy, economic research, and analysis. A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in these areas is required. Knowledge of economics, particularly development economics, is essential. Familiarity with the SDGs and their application at the national level is desirable, as is experience in coordinating multi-stakeholder processes. Candidates should demonstrate outstanding analytical and writing skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly. Proficiency in data analysis and the use of statistical software is also important.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Economics is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is an advantage.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development policy, economic research, and analysis. Candidates should have a strong understanding of development economics and relevant experience at the national or international level. Experience in data analytics or related areas is also desirable, particularly for those who have worked with economic development research.

Languages:
English and Bahasa are required for this position. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages at the UN Level II standard. Knowledge of French is an asset but not mandatory.
