Social Policy Intern - Child Data and Public Finance

Job Overview:
The internship aims to support the Social Policy section, specifically the Public Finance Management team, in developing and populating an internal online dashboard focused on child wellbeing and social sector financing. The intern will be responsible for compiling, cleaning, organizing, and visualizing data from national surveys and budget documents. This role is crucial for ensuring that the dashboard is user-friendly, updateable, and serves as a valuable tool for UNICEF's program planning, advocacy, and engagement with government and partners. The intern will gain hands-on experience in data management and visualization, contributing to meaningful projects that impact children's lives in Zambia.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Compile and clean data from various national surveys and budget documents to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Organize data in a structured manner that facilitates easy access and analysis.
• Visualize data using appropriate tools to create informative and engaging dashboards.
• Collaborate with the Public Finance Management team to understand the specific needs for the dashboard and ensure it meets those requirements.
• Conduct research to gather additional data and insights relevant to child wellbeing and social sector financing.
• Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations based on the data analysis.
• Ensure that all data sources are documented clearly and consistently.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving data management processes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have recently graduated within the last two years with either a Master's or Bachelor's degree in disciplines such as data analytics, statistics, economics, public finance, public policy, demography, research methods, data science, information systems, or related fields. Strong academic performance is essential, as demonstrated by recent university records. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of a local language is considered an added advantage. Candidates should possess strong communication, research, and organizational skills, along with experience in Microsoft Excel and data visualization tools like Power BI. Attention to detail and strong analytical skills are crucial for checking data consistency and documenting sources clearly. Additionally, candidates must not have immediate relatives working in any UNICEF office or in the line of authority to which the intern will report.

Educational Background:
A Master's or Bachelor's degree in data analytics, statistics, economics, public finance, public policy, demography, research methods, data science, information systems, or a related field is required. Recent graduates within the last two years are preferred, emphasizing the importance of strong academic performance.

Experience:
Relevant experience at the country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts, is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate familiarity with data management and visualization, as well as experience working in team environments.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of a local language is considered an added advantage, enhancing communication and engagement with local stakeholders.
