Job Overview:
The UN DESA Intern position is a full-time internship located within the Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD) at the UN Headquarters in New York. The intern will work closely with a Public Information Social Officer and the communications team to support various communication efforts, digital outreach, and social media promotion related to DISD's activities and initiatives. • The intern will be responsible for creating and disseminating content across multiple digital platforms, ensuring effective communication of DISD's mission and activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include supporting the development and dissemination of social media content for DISD activities across platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube. Specific tasks will involve drafting social media posts, captions, and promotional texts, as well as supporting communications related to major events like the Second World Summit for Social Development and the 2027 sessions of various UN forums. The intern will also assist in monitoring social media engagement, developing content for digital audiences, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of messaging. Additional duties may include identifying opportunities for cross-promotion, contributing ideas for audience engagement, and performing other related tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates must provide proof of their academic status with their application.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be enrolled in or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program. The educational background should be relevant to the internship's focus on social development, communications, or a related field, ensuring that the intern can effectively contribute to DISD's objectives and initiatives.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This could include studies in communications, social sciences, international relations, or other related fields that prepare the intern for the tasks they will undertake.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse audiences and materials.

Additional Notes:
This internship is designed to last between 2 to 6 months and is expected to be full-time. The work may be conducted in a hybrid manner, combining in-person presence at the UN Headquarters with telecommuting options. A part-time schedule may also be considered under exceptional circumstances. Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
