Job Overview: The Project Assistant, Protection will work under the general supervision of the Director of the Coordination Office for the Mediterranean and the Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, as well as the direct supervision of the Project Manager. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities related to migration and protection. This role involves retrieving, compiling, summarizing, and presenting information and data on specific project topics. The Project Assistant will also monitor the project budget by verifying the availability of funds, obtaining necessary approvals, and updating budget-related information. Administrative coordination of project implementation is a key function, which includes liaising with various organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, and process administrative actions. The incumbent will draft status reports, identify shortfalls in delivery, and bring these to the attention of the supervisor. Additionally, the role involves drafting correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other forms of documentation. Organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, as well as responding to general information requests and inquiries, are also part of the responsibilities. The Project Assistant will maintain files and records and perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities related to migration and protection.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, International Relations, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or a High School diploma with four years of relevant professional experience.
Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups.
Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental or government institutions/organizations in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
Experience in working with vulnerable groups is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, International Relations, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, candidates with a High School diploma must have four years of relevant professional experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have at least two years of relevant professional experience if they hold a Bachelor’s degree, or four years of relevant professional experience if they have a High School diploma. Experience should include liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organizations. Additionally, candidates should have experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or in a multi-cultural setting is considered an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in Italian and English is required for this position, both oral and written. All IOM staff members are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish). A working knowledge of French is considered an asset. Proficiency in the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
