Job Overview: The position is part of the International Strategic Mitigation Action Programme (ISMAP), which provides advisory services to the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) on fundamental issues in international climate and energy policy, as well as implementation initiatives. The focus areas include reducing global greenhouse gas emissions in line with the 1.5°C target, implementing global renewable energy goals, electrification of networks and storage, phasing out fossil fuel production and use, and collaborating with the private sector. The intern will have the opportunity to work on both long-term objectives and current political developments, contributing to the creation of advisory documents, decision-making templates, and presentations, as well as conducting research and preparing relevant facts and data related to climate and energy topics.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, your responsibilities will include supporting the preparation of advisory documents, decision-making templates, and presentations. You will conduct research and compile relevant facts and data on various climate and energy-related topics. Additionally, you will assist in the organizational preparation and follow-up of internal and external events such as working groups, conferences, and workshops. This role will provide you with hands-on experience in the field of international climate policy and energy management, allowing you to engage with key stakeholders and contribute to significant projects.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have prior experience in one or more of the following areas: collaboration with political institutions (ministries, multilateral organizations, etc.), knowledge of international climate policy (especially in mitigation), promotion of renewable energies, expertise in energy efficiency and energy savings, understanding of the political economy of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas), and knowledge of financial and trade policy issues in the context of international climate protection and the global energy transition. Additionally, candidates should possess a structured and independent working style, strong communication skills, teamwork abilities, and flexibility.
Educational Background: The internship is only available to candidates who are currently enrolled in a degree program, are in a training program that requires an internship as an integral part, or have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship. This ensures that applicants have a relevant academic background that aligns with the responsibilities of the position.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some prior experience in relevant fields, particularly in areas related to climate policy, energy management, and collaboration with governmental or international organizations. This experience can be gained through internships, volunteer work, or academic projects that demonstrate an understanding of the complexities of international climate action and energy strategies.
Languages: Fluency in both German and English is mandatory, with a minimum proficiency level of C1 in both languages. This is essential for effective communication within the team and with external stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
