Job Overview:
The internship program within the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, specifically in the Trade Policy and Facilitation Section, is designed for candidates who are eager to gain practical experience in media, communications, and international development. This internship is an excellent opportunity for junior-level candidates to engage with the trade team at UN ESCAP, contributing to the visibility and outreach of their work. Interns will be involved in various communications-related activities that support policy events, publications, and public information materials. The role requires a commitment of two to six months, with a full-time schedule of five days a week, totaling 35 hours. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member and are encouraged to specify their preferred start and end dates in their application. This position is unpaid, and candidates are expected to manage their own travel and living expenses. The internship offers a unique insight into how the United Nations operates, particularly in terms of communication and public engagement, allowing interns to develop skills in international communications, event visibility, and publication design.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will have a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting the preparation and organization of meetings, workshops, and regional events; assisting with event promotion and communication materials; developing visually appealing outreach materials such as flyers and brochures; supporting the design and formatting of publications and reports; assisting with photography and video content during events; contributing to the section’s media and outreach strategy; reviewing and improving website content; drafting inputs for public information materials; organizing communication assets and event materials; and performing other related tasks as required by the team. This role is integral to enhancing the visibility of the Trade Policy and Facilitation Section's work and ensuring effective communication with policymakers and the public.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess skills or interests in one or more of the following areas: communications, media, journalism, public relations, digital outreach, graphic design, publication layout, photography, video editing, visual storytelling, event communications, social media content creation, and website content management. Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and various digital media tools is advantageous. Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in international development, trade, investment, and public policy, as these areas are central to the work of the Trade Policy and Facilitation Section.

Educational Background:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). This educational background ensures that interns have the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the team.

Experience:
No prior work experience is required to apply for this internship. However, candidates should highlight any relevant training, coursework, or skills that would benefit the United Nations during their internship. This could include academic projects, volunteer work, or personal initiatives that demonstrate a commitment to the fields of media, communications, or international development.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The internship is conducted in person in Bangkok, with a possibility of a hybrid arrangement that combines in-person and online work. Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Candidates who are not citizens or permanent residents of Thailand may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
