Job Overview:
The Shelter Assistant will play a crucial role in the daily operations of the accommodation centers for unaccompanied minors (UMCs) managed by IOM. This position involves providing assistance, care, and services to UMCs residing in the assigned shelter. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Shelter Coordinator and will be responsible for implementing individual daily programs for the beneficiaries in collaboration with social workers. The role requires ensuring the safety and well-being of the children, maintaining hygiene standards, and facilitating access to necessary services such as medical care and legal counseling. The Shelter Assistant will also be involved in crisis management and will need to communicate effectively with local authorities to ensure the safety of minors and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Shelter Assistant include: assisting in the daily operations of the shelter, ensuring the implementation of individual daily programs for UMCs, providing guidance on personal hygiene and cleanliness, updating the coordinator on the adequacy of necessary materials, overseeing the maintenance of the accommodation center, maintaining entry-exit records for minors and visitors, handling crisis situations effectively, ensuring the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of accommodated children during all shifts, and performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor. The Shelter Assistant must also educate minors on the respect and functional use of the facilities and equipment within the center.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school degree from Greece or proven attendance at a foreign school recognized by UNESCO. Experience or training in child protection, particularly concerning unaccompanied minors, is essential. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and refugees, especially children, is preferred. Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous, along with a valid driver’s license and at least five years of driving experience. Candidates should demonstrate cultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, as well as a willingness to work on day/night shifts, during holidays, and weekends.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must have attended an accredited institution recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Additional training or certifications related to child protection or social work would be beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires experience or training relevant to child protection and the management of vulnerable populations, particularly unaccompanied minors. Candidates should have a positive record of previous experience in similar roles, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with diverse populations and in multi-cultural settings. Experience in crisis management and direct assistance to children in need is highly valued.

Languages:
Fluency in Greek (both written and oral) is mandatory for this position. All IOM staff members are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish. Working knowledge of English or French, or any other language, would be considered an asset. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The position may involve working on a full-time basis with shifts that include nights, weekends, and public holidays. The appointment is subject to funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for appointment, as well as any necessary residency or visa requirements.
