Job Overview:
The Translator & Reviser position at the World Bank Group is integral to facilitating effective communication between the organization and its member governments, institutions, and non-governmental organizations. The role primarily involves providing high-quality translation and interpretation services, particularly in Russian and Uzbek, to support the World Bank's mission of addressing global development challenges. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all translations are not only accurate but also stylistically appropriate for the intended audience. This position requires a strong understanding of the technical aspects of translation and interpretation, as well as the ability to utilize advanced language technologies to enhance the efficiency and quality of language services. The role also includes project coordination responsibilities, ensuring that translation requests are managed effectively from initiation to delivery, thereby contributing to the overall success of the World Bank's initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Interpretation: Provide accurate and seamless consecutive, simultaneous, and whisper interpretation for World Bank Group representatives and staff during meetings, conferences, and field settings. Maintain impartiality and adhere to World Bank interpretation standards at all times, and travel on mission with Bank teams as required.
  • Translation: Translate documents across various subject areas from source languages into the primary language, ensuring technical accuracy and stylistic appropriateness for the intended audience. Conduct terminological research to support consistency and quality, maintain and update Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools and terminology databases, and apply machine translation and AI-assisted language technologies to support scalable, secure translation delivery. Perform professional post-editing, quality assurance, and terminological validation of AI- and MT-generated content, exercising expert linguistic judgment and accountability for final deliverables. Contribute to the continuous improvement of GCSTI language technologies by providing structured feedback on output quality, usability, and workflow integration.
  • Project Coordination and Quality Assurance: Assist with the full lifecycle of translation requests, including scheduling, vendor coordination, and timely delivery. Recruit, onboard, and monitor freelance language vendors; maintain the local Country Office (CO) Roster. Conduct quality reviews of vendor output and provide performance evaluations.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Translator & Reviser position should possess a Master's degree in Translation, Interpretation, Linguistics, or a related field. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree combined with substantial professional experience in technology-enabled translation and interpretation workflows may be considered in lieu of a master's degree. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in translation and/or interpretation, with proven experience in technology-enabled language service environments. Hands-on experience with machine translation post-editing (MTPE), terminology management, and quality assurance in institutional or large-scale translation settings is essential. Additionally, candidates should have native-level proficiency in Russian and English, both written and spoken, and advanced proficiency with CAT tools, terminology platforms, and Microsoft Office.

Educational Background:
Candidates are required to have a Master's degree in Translation, Interpretation, Linguistics, or a related field. In cases where candidates possess a bachelor's degree, they must also have substantial professional experience in technology-enabled translation and interpretation workflows that can be considered equivalent to a master's degree. This educational background is crucial for ensuring that candidates have the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to perform effectively in the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in translation and/or interpretation. Candidates should have demonstrated experience working in technology-enabled language service environments, showcasing their ability to adapt to modern translation practices and tools. Proven hands-on experience with machine translation post-editing (MTPE), terminology management, and quality assurance in institutional or large-scale translation settings is also essential for this role.

Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are native-level proficiency in Russian and English, both written and spoken. Additionally, proficiency in Uzbek is preferred, which would enhance the candidate's ability to serve the diverse linguistic needs of the World Bank's stakeholders.
