Job Overview: The Project Manager - TRANSFORM will lead the implementation of the TRANSFORM project, which aims to transform wildlife conservation and livelihoods in Mozambique. This role involves providing technical leadership and overall operational management for the successful execution of the project. The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the project, ensuring that objectives and results specified in the project document are achieved. This includes managing financial resources, ensuring compliance with UNDP policies, and integrating gender equality perspectives into project activities. The Project Manager will also facilitate partnerships with stakeholders, monitor project progress, and report on achievements and challenges. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining a focus on project goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Manager - TRANSFORM will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Coordinating effective project planning and implementation by developing project plans, work schedules, and budgets in accordance with UNDP guidelines.
Managing day-to-day project activities, ensuring optimal resource use and timely delivery of results.
Providing technical advice and support to ensure high-quality outputs.
Establishing interactive platforms for project implementation and collaborating with other program units to integrate critical development issues.
Ensuring alignment of project activities with UNDP policies and gender equality perspectives.
Managing procurement processes and human resources effectively.
Developing and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and beneficiaries.
Monitoring project progress, updating indicators, and preparing reports for stakeholders. 1
Organizing training and capacity-building activities, documenting best practices, and promoting knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Environment, Natural Resources Management, Rural Development, Conservation, or Sustainable Agriculture. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in these areas, combined with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience, will also be considered. Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a lead project manager with a master’s degree or 4 years with a bachelor’s degree. Experience in data gathering, team management, and technical assessments is essential. Knowledge of key software packages, particularly MS Office, is required. Desired skills include experience in public participation processes related to environmental and sustainable development, collaboration with government entities, and familiarity with GEF projects and UNDP initiatives.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master’s degree) in fields related to Environment, Natural Resources Management, Rural Development, Conservation, or Sustainable Agriculture. A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in these areas, along with additional qualifying experience, will also be considered. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of project management in the context of environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in project management for candidates with a master’s degree, or 4 years for those with a bachelor’s degree. This experience should include leading projects in relevant sectors, managing teams, and overseeing technical assessments and reports. Familiarity with environmental policies and sustainable development practices is highly desirable, as is experience working with governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders, reporting, and project documentation. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes: The Project Manager position is based in Maputo, Mozambique, and is expected to work closely with the National Agency for Conservation Areas (ANAC).
