Job Overview: The position of Private Finance Operations Specialist or Senior Associate is crucial within the IDB Lab's Venture Capital and Investment Division (LAB/VCI). The selected candidate will lead operations in Trinidad and Tobago, focusing on managing a portfolio of reimbursable operations, which includes equity investments in early-stage companies and venture capital funds. The role involves identifying and designing innovative financial operations, executing due diligence, and conducting financial modeling and risk analysis. The specialist will also oversee the IDB Lab's portfolio to ensure that investments achieve their development objectives while generating expected financial returns. This position requires collaboration with local innovation initiatives and stakeholders in the Caribbean to enhance the IDB Lab's relevance in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Private Finance Operations Specialist or Senior Associate include:
Identifying, originating, and designing innovative financial operations, including equity investments in venture capital funds and early-stage companies.
Executing due diligence processes, financial modeling, and comprehensive risk analysis (financial, credit, and market).
Overseeing the IDB Lab’s portfolio to ensure alignment with development objectives and financial returns.
Serving as a focal point for all VCI activities in the Caribbean, enhancing the IDB Lab's presence in the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Collaborating with IDB Representatives and leading local innovation initiatives in Trinidad and Tobago.
Providing technical advice and support to portfolio companies to foster their growth and impact.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in economics, finance, business, or related fields, with a preference for those emphasizing innovation finance or venture capital. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of financial operations and investment processes, with the ability to assess opportunities and analyze risks effectively. Proven experience in deal processes, including due diligence and negotiation, is essential.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in relevant fields such as economics, finance, or business is required. Candidates with a focus on innovation finance or venture capital will be preferred, as these areas are directly related to the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: At least three years of professional experience in finance, business analysis, entrepreneurship, lending, or investment-related fields is required. Candidates should have a proven track record of assessing opportunities, analyzing risks, and contributing to end-to-end deal processes, including due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and closing.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of one of the Bank’s other official languages, such as Spanish, French, or Portuguese, would be considered an advantage, enhancing communication within the diverse team and with stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is offered as a national staff contract for an initial duration of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
