Job Overview:
The IC - National Livelihood Expert position is designed to provide specialized expertise in the area of livelihoods, particularly in the context of sustainable development and poverty alleviation. The expert will be responsible for assessing the current livelihood strategies in the target areas, identifying gaps, and proposing actionable solutions to enhance the livelihoods of the local population. This role requires a deep understanding of local economic conditions, social dynamics, and environmental factors that influence livelihoods. The expert will work closely with local stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community groups, to develop and implement strategies that promote sustainable livelihoods. The position is expected to span a period of 40 days over six months, allowing for a flexible approach to engagement and implementation of strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the IC - National Livelihood Expert include but are not limited to: conducting comprehensive assessments of existing livelihood strategies; engaging with local communities to understand their needs and challenges; developing tailored livelihood enhancement programs; collaborating with local and national stakeholders to ensure alignment with broader development goals; providing technical guidance and support in the implementation of livelihood projects; monitoring and evaluating the impact of livelihood interventions; preparing detailed reports and presentations on findings and recommendations; facilitating workshops and training sessions for local stakeholders; and ensuring that all activities are in compliance with UNDP policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in development studies, economics, or a related field. Proven experience in livelihood programming, particularly in developing countries, is essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and propose effective solutions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to engage with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with UNDP's operational procedures and policies is an advantage. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and poverty reduction.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in relevant areas will be given preference. Continuous professional development in livelihood strategies or related fields is also advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in livelihood programming, community development, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP or similar agencies, is highly desirable. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully implementing livelihood projects and engaging with local communities.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in local languages spoken in the target areas is highly desirable, as it will facilitate better communication with local stakeholders and communities. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region may also be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of 40 days spread over a period of 6 months. The role is expected to be part-time, allowing for flexibility in scheduling. The position is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
