Job Overview:
The Communication and Advocacy Assistant position is integral to UNDP's youth empowerment initiatives, particularly the flagship Generation 17 initiative. This role involves creating engaging content and visual materials that resonate with youth audiences and support UNDP's mission of promoting youth participation in governance and sustainable development. The assistant will work under the supervision of the UNDP Youth Empowerment Specialist, contributing to various communication strategies, social media campaigns, and advocacy efforts aimed at enhancing youth engagement on global platforms. The position requires a blend of creativity, technical skills in graphic design, and a strong understanding of youth-related issues, ensuring that the messaging aligns with UNDP's branding and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communication and Advocacy Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including:
  • Content Creation: Developing visually appealing and youth-focused content for UNDP platforms, including social media and UNDP.org pages.
  • Graphic Design: Designing original visual content using tools like Canva, creating templates for social media posts, presentations, and publications.
  • Social Media Engagement: Planning and preparing content for social media campaigns, monitoring engagement, and identifying trends to inform future content.
  • Campaign Coordination: Supporting the rollout of communication and advocacy campaigns related to UNDP's youth initiatives, including global observance days.
  • Knowledge Management: Maintaining a structured digital filing system for communication assets and ensuring the accuracy of youth-related content on various platforms.
  • Multimedia Support: Assisting in video content production and designing infographics or visual assets for different audiences.
  • Event Support: Providing logistical and communication support for webinars and global youth engagement events, including outreach to youth networks.
  • Administrative Support: Maintaining contact lists and providing additional communication and coordination support as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Communication and Advocacy Assistant position should possess a strong set of qualifications, including:
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling narratives and visual content.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication strategies.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A passion for youth empowerment and understanding of global development issues, particularly related to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communications, graphic design, international relations, or a related field is preferred for this position. Candidates with relevant certifications or training in graphic design or digital communications will also be considered favorably.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 1-2 years of experience in communications, advocacy, or a related field. Experience working with youth organizations or in international development contexts is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNDP's mission and objectives, as well as previous involvement in youth empowerment initiatives, will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to UNDP's work in different regions, is considered a valuable asset.

This position is a remote assignment with a focus on supporting the UNDP Global Youth Team based in Bonn, Germany. The role is classified as a volunteer position, and the Volunteer Living Allowance will be based on the national entitlements of the candidate's country of residence.
