Job Overview: The position of Payment for Ecosystem Services – Partnership Development Consultant is designed to support the UNDP's BIOFIN project in Sri Lanka. The consultant will be responsible for developing partnerships that enhance the implementation of ecosystem services payments. This role requires a deep understanding of environmental economics and the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities. The consultant will work primarily from home but may need to visit field sites in Sri Lanka to gather data, conduct interviews, and facilitate workshops. The consultant is expected to contribute to the strategic planning and execution of partnership development activities, ensuring alignment with the project’s objectives and UNDP’s broader mission.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Identifying and mapping potential partners for ecosystem services initiatives, including governmental, non-governmental, and private sector stakeholders.
Developing partnership strategies that align with the goals of the BIOFIN project and the UNDP’s mission.
Facilitating meetings and workshops with stakeholders to promote collaboration and gather insights on ecosystem services.
Conducting research and analysis on best practices in payment for ecosystem services and partnership development.
Preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to UNDP and stakeholders.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of partnerships and making adjustments as necessary to improve outcomes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong qualifications, including:
Proven experience in partnership development, particularly in the context of environmental projects or ecosystem services.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable strategies.
Familiarity with the socio-economic and environmental context of Sri Lanka is highly desirable.
Proficiency in project management and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, economics, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an advantage.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in partnership development, project management, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of environmental or sustainable development projects, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with proficiency in Sinhala and/or Tamil considered an asset. The ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken forms is essential for this role.
Additional Notes: This is an individual contractor position with a contract duration of 75 days over a period of 5 months from the signing of the contract. The position is open only to Sri Lankan individuals, and submissions from organizations or other nationals will not be considered. The consultant will work remotely but may be required to travel to field sites in Sri Lanka as needed. The deadline for proposal submission is set for 29-May-26 at 04:30 AM New York time.
