Job Overview: The ICT Consultant position at UNICEF Eritrea is designed to provide short-term technical assistance to support the day-to-day operations of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) systems and services. The consultant will work under the supervision of the ICT Officer and will be responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of ICT systems, which are essential for program delivery, operations, communication, and organizational efficiency. The role involves providing technical support for computers, hardware, software, and network-related issues, as well as assisting in the setup and configuration of ICT equipment. The consultant will also be expected to troubleshoot basic ICT issues, monitor systems, maintain records, and support inventory management. This position is crucial for enhancing the operational capabilities of UNICEF in Eritrea and ensuring compliance with organizational standards and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with a variety of duties including:
Providing day-to-day technical support for computers, hardware, software, printers, and network-related issues.
Assisting in the setup, installation, and configuration of ICT equipment and office systems.
Troubleshooting basic ICT issues such as login problems, connectivity issues, printer malfunctions, and user support inquiries.
Monitoring ICT systems and escalating technical issues as necessary.
Maintaining accurate records of ICT assets, support requests, and activities in the Service Gateway.
Supporting ICT inventory management, including labeling, tracking, and updating equipment records in coordination with the Admin team.
Assisting in testing system updates, applications, and configurations as required.
Providing basic technical guidance and user support to staff.
Supporting the implementation of ICT-related projects and system changes under the guidance of the ICT Officer. 1
Ensuring compliance with UNICEF ICT standards, procedures, and security requirements. 1
Performing other ICT-related support tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in ICT user support and familiarity with network equipment.
Desirable qualifications include exposure to working with government or development partners, an interest in learning and professional growth, field work experience, and familiarity with emergency situations.
Skills in qualitative and/or quantitative research, including interviews, surveys, data coding, or basic statistical analysis, are also beneficial.
Experience working in multicultural or international teams is preferred.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree (Bachelor) in one of the following fields: computer science, software engineering, information technology management, business administration, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the foundational knowledge required to perform the technical tasks associated with the position effectively.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in ICT user support. Candidates should have familiarity with network equipment and a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot basic ICT issues. Experience working in multicultural or international teams is also advantageous, as it reflects the collaborative nature of the work environment at UNICEF.
Languages: Fluency in English and the local language is required for this position. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse workplace.
