Job Overview:
The position of Individual International Consultant (Renewable Energy and Airport Systems Engine) is focused on developing engineering designs, technical specifications, and Bill of Quantities for renewable energy and smart infrastructure systems at King Mswati III International Airport. This role is part of the Japanese GX–DX pilot project aimed at enhancing energy independence for critical airport functions. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring that renewable energy technologies are designed to support the airport's operational needs, particularly through solar-powered systems and energy-efficient infrastructure. The consultant will conduct assessments, design systems, and oversee the implementation of these technologies, ensuring compliance with aviation safety standards and international procurement guidelines. The expected deliverables include detailed reports, engineering designs, and oversight documentation necessary for the successful deployment of renewable energy systems at the airport.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: conducting a technical assessment of the airport’s current energy systems; designing a solar-powered runway and perimeter lighting system; developing engineering designs for smart cargo warehouse retrofits; producing a conceptual design and engineering roadmap for scaling renewable energy systems; preparing detailed technical specifications and Bill of Quantities for required equipment; facilitating international technology partnerships; providing technical oversight during procurement, installation, commissioning, and handover of proposed technologies; and ensuring all systems meet aviation safety requirements and are operationally ready for transfer to ESWACAA.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in renewable energy systems, engineering design, and project management. They should have experience in the aviation sector, particularly in energy systems related to airport operations. Familiarity with international standards for aviation safety and procurement processes is essential. The consultant should also demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government agencies and technology providers.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in project management or renewable energy technologies would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of engineering principles and practices as they relate to energy systems and infrastructure development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant professional experience in renewable energy project development, engineering design, and implementation. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP projects, is highly desirable. Proven track record in managing complex projects and delivering results within specified timelines is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the region or Japanese, would be considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The assignment is expected to last for 70 days spread over a period of 10 months. This is a consultancy position, and the consultant will be expected to work flexibly to meet project deadlines. The role is open to international candidates, and the consultant will be compensated according to UNDP's remuneration policies.
