Job Overview:
The Climate Finance Pipeline and Aggregation Consultant (Agriculture) position is designed to support the UNDP in enhancing climate finance initiatives specifically within the agricultural sector. The consultant will be responsible for developing a comprehensive pipeline of climate finance projects that can attract investment and support sustainable agricultural practices. This role involves analyzing current agricultural practices, identifying potential areas for climate finance, and aggregating projects to present to potential investors. The consultant will work closely with stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector partners, and local communities, to ensure that the projects align with national and international climate goals. The position requires a deep understanding of climate finance mechanisms, agricultural practices, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. The consultant will also be expected to provide recommendations on best practices and innovative financing solutions to enhance the resilience of the agricultural sector against climate change.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Climate Finance Pipeline and Aggregation Consultant include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting a thorough assessment of the current agricultural practices in South Africa and identifying opportunities for climate finance.
  • Developing a detailed pipeline of climate finance projects that can be aggregated for investment purposes.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, and private sector entities, to gather insights and support for project development.
  • Preparing project proposals and documentation that meet the requirements of potential investors and funding agencies.
  • Providing technical assistance and guidance on climate finance mechanisms and strategies to stakeholders involved in agricultural development.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the progress of the projects in the pipeline and making necessary adjustments based on feedback and changing circumstances.
  • Reporting on the outcomes and impacts of the projects to UNDP and other relevant stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Climate Finance Pipeline and Aggregation Consultant position include:
  • A strong background in climate finance, sustainable agriculture, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in project development and management, particularly in the context of climate finance.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess agricultural practices and identify financing opportunities.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as an individual contractor role for a period of 4 months. The consultant will be expected to work full-time and may need to travel within South Africa as required for project assessments and stakeholder meetings. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the consultant will be responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
