Operating in 170 countries and territories, UNDP focuses on developing policies, leadership skills, partnerships, and institutional capabilities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The organization emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that all personnel are empowered to contribute to its mission, and actively encourages applications from marginalized or excluded populations. UNDP has a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and abuse, harassment, and discrimination, ensuring a safe and respectful workplace for all employees.

Job Overview:
The Programme Management Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Finance Against Slavery and Trafficking (FAST) Initiative, a flagship programme of the Sustainable Finance Hub (SFH) at UNDP. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects aimed at addressing modern slavery and human trafficking through innovative financing mechanisms. The intern will assist in various aspects of programme management, including day-to-day coordination, planning, and implementation of activities aligned with established workplans and timelines. The intern will also engage in research and knowledge management, helping to develop knowledge products and support communications planning to promote programme activities. This position is home-based, allowing the intern to work remotely from any location, while still being part of a global initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will work under the direct supervision of the FAST Initiative Project Coordinator and will collaborate closely with the Sustainable Finance Programme Manager and other team members. Key responsibilities include:
  • Programme Management Support: Assist in day-to-day programme coordination, planning, and implementation of activities in line with agreed workplans and timelines. Track deliverables, deadlines, and action points, following up with internal and external stakeholders. Prepare, review, and organize programme documents, briefs, presentations, meeting notes, and reporting inputs. Maintain updated programme records, contact lists, calendars, and filing systems. Assist with logistical, administrative, and operational arrangements related to programme activities, including procurement, travel, vendor coordination, and documentation. Organize in-person, virtual, and hybrid consultations, roundtables, bilateral meetings, and events. Monitor implementation progress, identify bottlenecks, and support timely follow-up to ensure smooth delivery of programme activities.
  • Research and Knowledge Management Support: Conduct background research and desk reviews to support the development of knowledge products, briefs, presentations, reports, and other programme materials. Collect, organize, and synthesize information from various sources, including consultations, meetings, events, research papers, and policy documents. Document key insights, recommendations, lessons learned, and stakeholder commitments. Draft event debriefs, outcome reports, research summaries, presentations, and communication materials. Develop and maintain knowledge repositories, ensuring resources are organized, accessible, and aligned with programme priorities. Support communications planning and content development to promote knowledge products and programme activities through various channels.
  • Administrative Support: Implement the FAST workplan through document preparation and process management. Maintain detailed records and contribute to staff meetings and progress reports for FAST project activities.

Applicants must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme or higher), be in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as a bachelor’s degree), or have recently graduated with a university degree. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. The internship is designed for individuals who are passionate about international development and have a strong commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a field of study related to international development, international relations, finance, economics, political affairs, sustainable finance, or any related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of the issues addressed by the FAST Initiative and for contributing effectively to the programme's objectives.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 1 year of experience in organizational management or project management, preferably within international organizations or similar settings. Experience in programme management and knowledge management, particularly in sustainable finance or sustainable development, is highly desired. Familiarity with multilateral organizations or bilateral donor agencies is also advantageous. Additionally, knowledge of modern slavery and human trafficking through coursework or professional experience is considered an asset. Experience in data analysis, demonstrated through university coursework, is desired.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is required for this position. Knowledge of another UN language, especially French, is desirable, as it can enhance communication and collaboration within the diverse international environment of UNDP.

Selected candidates will need to provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan before the internship begins. UNDP does not accept responsibility for costs arising from accidents, illness, or death incurred during the internship. Interns may receive a stipend according to UNDP Internship Policy, which is intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station. It is important to note that UNDP has a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and misconduct, and all selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks.
