Job Overview:
The position of International Consultant for the Sustainable Model is designed for a senior specialist in renewable energies and rural electrification. The consultant will be engaged under an Individual Contractor (IC) agreement, with a mission duration of 40 working days spread over three months, including 10 days of in-person work in Bangui, Central African Republic. The consultant will be responsible for providing expert advice and support in the development and implementation of sustainable energy solutions, particularly focusing on renewable energy sources and rural electrification projects. The role requires a deep understanding of the energy sector, project management, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve project goals. The consultant will also be expected to contribute to capacity building and knowledge transfer to local teams, ensuring that sustainable practices are integrated into the energy development strategies of the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting assessments of current energy needs and resources in rural areas; developing strategic plans for renewable energy implementation; collaborating with local governments and communities to promote sustainable energy practices; providing technical expertise in the design and execution of renewable energy projects; preparing detailed reports and documentation on project progress and outcomes; facilitating workshops and training sessions for local stakeholders; ensuring compliance with UNDP policies and procedures; and contributing to the overall mission of promoting sustainable development in the Central African Republic. The consultant will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating project impacts and making recommendations for improvements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a higher education degree (at least Bac+5) in fields such as hydroelectricity, electricity, hydraulics, renewable energy development, development economics, project management, or rural development. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proven track record of working on renewable energy projects in developing countries. Familiarity with UNDP's operational procedures and experience in capacity building initiatives will be considered an asset. Candidates should also exhibit a commitment to sustainable development and the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as hydroelectric engineering, electrical engineering, renewable energy, development economics, or project management. A PhD in a related field may be advantageous but is not mandatory. Candidates should have a solid understanding of energy systems, particularly renewable energy technologies, and their application in rural electrification contexts. Continuous professional development and certifications in project management or renewable energy will also be beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in the energy sector, with a focus on renewable energy and rural electrification projects. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of energy projects. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in developing countries, is highly desirable. The ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, is essential for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the Central African Republic. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the region may be considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with local communities effectively.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an Individual Contractor (IC) role, with a contract duration of 40 working days over a period of three months. The consultant is expected to work both remotely and in-person in Bangui, with specific days allocated for on-site activities. The role is full-time during the contract period, and candidates should be prepared to travel as necessary. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's remuneration policies.
