Job Overview:
The Automation System Architect is a crucial role within UNICEF, focusing on the organization's digital transformation efforts. This position is responsible for designing and implementing automation solutions that enhance business processes, improve operational efficiency, and foster innovation. The role requires a deep understanding of automation technologies and system architecture, along with a solid foundation in software development and IT infrastructure. The Automation System Architect will oversee the entire automation lifecycle, from solution design and implementation to ongoing maintenance and management. This includes identifying opportunities for operational enhancements, recommending suitable tools and environments, and creating scalable workflows supported by comprehensive documentation and standards. A key aspect of this role is to provide clear architectural direction, standardized design patterns, and well-defined implementation roadmaps, ensuring that delivery teams can focus on execution within a coherent, governed, and scalable automation framework. This position is a Temporary Appointment (TA) until December 31, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Automation System Architect will be responsible for several key functions, including:
  • Assessment & Planning: Evaluating current processes and identifying areas for automation.
  • Solution Design & Implementation: Creating and deploying automation solutions tailored to organizational needs.
  • Integration & Optimization: Ensuring seamless integration of automation tools with existing systems and optimizing workflows for maximum efficiency.
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Leading cross-functional teams in the implementation of automation projects and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Compliance & Best Practices: Ensuring that all automation solutions adhere to organizational standards and best practices.
  • Documentation & Training: Developing comprehensive documentation for automation processes and providing training to staff on new systems and tools.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with specialized training or work experience in RPA and other Process Automation technologies. Candidates should have a minimum of one year of experience as an Automation Architect, System Architect, or in a similar role with a focus on automation technologies. A solid understanding of programming languages such as AutoIt, Python, VBA, VBS, or Java is essential, as well as expertise in RPA tools like Blue Prism, UiPath, or Automation Anywhere. Familiarity with AI, ML, and workflow automation technologies is also required, along with experience in designing and implementing complex automation solutions in an enterprise environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary to assess business processes and identify automation opportunities, and candidates should have familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, as well as an understanding of API integrations and database systems.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Specialized training or work experience in RPA and other Process Automation technologies is required. A Master's degree in a relevant field is considered an asset.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of one year of relevant work experience as an Automation Architect, System Architect, or in a similar role with a focus on automation technologies. Candidates should have experience in designing and implementing complex automation solutions in an enterprise environment, demonstrating a strong understanding of automation technologies and system architecture.

Languages:
Fluency in both spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset.
