Job Posting Organization:
The internship is offered by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA), which is a regional arm of the United Nations. Job Overview:
The internship position is situated within the External Relations and Outreach (ERC) of UNESCWA. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Secretary of the Commission and the Chief of External Relations and Outreach. The primary functions of this role include conducting research on economic and social development issues, compiling and processing socioeconomic databases, and supporting the drafting of presentations and project documents. The intern will also be involved in organizing meetings and preparing reports on the economic and social policy environment in the region. This position is designed to provide valuable experience in international relations and the workings of the United Nations, while contributing to meaningful projects that impact the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: conducting research and reference searches on topics related to economic and social development; compiling and processing socioeconomic data from various sources; assisting in drafting inputs for presentations, project documents, and research papers; organizing meetings and events; surveying the economic and social policy environment in the region and preparing reports based on findings; and supporting other ad-hoc activities as directed by supervisors. This role requires a proactive approach to learning and contributing to the team's objectives, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet specific criteria: they should be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level), or have graduated with a relevant university degree. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and a commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is also essential, showcasing tolerance and understanding of differing opinions and views.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a relevant educational background, which includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or a first university degree. This educational requirement ensures that interns possess the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the work of UNESCWA.

Experience:
No previous work experience is required for this internship position, making it an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in a prestigious international organization. Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable, as it is a working language of ESCWA. French is also a working language of the UN, and proficiency in it can be beneficial. Fluency is defined as being able to speak, read, write, and understand the language at a high level, while knowledge indicates a confident ability in at least two of the four areas.

This internship is offered on a hybrid work basis and is expected to last for a duration of two months. It is important to note that interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Lebanon may need to secure the appropriate visa and work authorization prior to starting the internship.
