Job Overview: The Youth Specialist position within the Bail Response Program Team is a full-time, maximum term opportunity that extends through to the end of December 2026, with a strong potential for extension. Duties and Responsibilities: The Youth Specialist will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to: providing intensive case management support to young people involved in the youth justice system; ensuring that the services provided are culturally responsive and incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives; collaborating with young people to set and achieve their goals; conducting follow-ups and referrals to other specialist services as needed; monitoring the progress of young people in meeting their bail conditions; evaluating program outcomes to assess effectiveness; maintaining accurate records and documentation of case work; engaging with families and caregivers to provide holistic support; and participating in team meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in youth work and case management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Youth Specialist position must demonstrate a range of qualifications, including: proven skills and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, particularly those in contact with the justice system; a background in youth work or case management roles; a solid understanding of complex intergenerational trauma and its impacts; strong verbal and written communication skills; an understanding of child protection concerns and a commitment to responding safely and effectively; and sound time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage and plan their own workload effectively.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position typically includes a degree in social work, psychology, youth work, or a related field. Candidates with relevant certifications or qualifications in youth services or community work may also be considered.
